This is something I do far too often:
I have two choices. I can finish work or I can play a video game, and finish work later.
I'd like to play, but then I feel guilty about not working. And I don't feel like working (even if it's a short job).
So what do I end up doing? Reading LiveJournal, playing some browser-based games, doing some reading, starting some entirely different task that isn't what I need to do before I can take a break. All of this takes far longer than just doing the work would have done, and usually whittles away my free time until I don't have any left to actually enjoy myself.
It's the time-management equivalent of eating cotton candy when you're hungry. Not satisfying and not healthy.
(I did, however, make myself finish work before writing this post. And then ran out of time to play, because it's now dinnertime. Bah.)
