one very frequent theme in the responses to "what should i do in 2009" was dancing: doing more of it (excellent suggestions), inviting the spirit of dance into my life in other ways (a very interesting thought, and not far off some of my now-ancient thoughts about dance from the mid-90s, when i began... i wrote at one point something along the lines of the following: "someday, i hope to be able to bring into the rest of my world the joy and confidence that i feel when i am dancing, and when i do that, i will be a much better & happier [and now that i think of it, joyful and confident, eh?] person overall. watch out, world!"), and inviting people on my friendslist to go to a dance.
the first two are clearly longer term projects, and mostly for me to explore, mostly alone. but the last one is different, and easy to accomplish, and has the potential for all kinds of wonderful benefits and opportunities for me, and others.
i used to post occasionally about upcoming dances that i thought especially promising, or that i planned to try to attend. i'm going to try to do that more, starting right now.
thursday, 1/15/09, at the concord scout house in concord, ma, from 7:30pm - 10:30pm: my favorite dance caller will be calling with a band that she told me i'll like (which means they're likely to play "tight" music, excellent beat, great harmonies, the works :) ). it also means it may be crowded, so if that's not your thing, this might not be the night to try.
if you want to come but don't know how to dance, let me know. i'll help you, i'll introduce you to others, and we'll dance and it will work. you'll see.
and if you already know how to dance, fantastic! let's dance together. :)
(see
the web site for more info. there will be other great, local dances, typically on thursdays, mondays, and fridays.)
carpooling opportunities from cambridge may be available; my timing depends on when i can get out of work, and that is somewhat variable.
p.s. i'm more likely to post about dances that i'm actually thinking of going to...
