The THEN and Now part was snurched from
capnoblivious some time ago on a visit to lj. Being a tad [read a decade] older than himself, I thought it might be interesting to go back another 10 years again - the 'PAST THENs'. Good thing I did, it made for gruesome reading otherwise. I've also renumbered it because Q.10 seemed to be missing. [Please note date I did this above]
PAST THEN: June 1986
THEN : June 1996
NOW : June 2006
1)How old were you?
PAST THEN: 22
THEN: 32
NOW: 42
2)Where did you work?
PAST THEN: Dept. of Veteran's Affairs, Sydney
THEN: Was racking up my first year of the rotten depression - i.e. Not working
NOW: Year 11 of depression and counting - even less able to work now, can barely get myself out of bed each day.
3)Where did you live?
PAST THEN: Shared a beautiful Art Deco apt in Kensington, NSW
THEN: Blacktown [ shudders].
NOW: The West Wing, Watson, ACT.
4)How was your hair styled?
PAST THEN: Long
THEN: Long ish.
NOW: Longer with more definition to my [natural] Bride of Frankenstein streaks. Desperately in need of a split end trimming though!
5)Did you wear contacts?
PAST THEN: No
THEN: No but did try them in the intervening years - not good for me.
NOW: No.
6)Did you wear glasses?
PAST THEN: Yes
THEN: Yes
NOW: Yes, my near vision is getting worse so I may need two sets soon [or bi-focals]. {Update - actually, the problem was that my vision had improved. Go figure!}
7)Who was your best friend?
PAST THEN: No-one [see THEN], the closest to being one may have been
ozgenre
THEN: Best friend? Not sure I've ever had one but the friend I saw the most was BenK.
NOW: Still without one and not seeing anybody at all very often.
8)Who were your pets?
PAST THEN: None but I did have one briefly in '87
THEN: None.
NOW: None but I do borrow the neighbour's cats upon occasion, Burt for the purposes of snuggling and little Benny for playing with when I'm hanging out the laundry [he likes to chase the 'SHINY' reflection from the mirror in my peg-bag (an old beauty case)].
9)Who was your partner/romantic interest?
PAST THEN: If I had one, my memory was been blocked of it, for their sake [thanks to my late!].
ozgenre can you remember that time for me?
THEN: No one.
NOW: Ditto
10) Who was your celebrity crush?
PAST THEN: I've never really done the whole 'crush' thing.
THEN: See above
NOW: See above
11) Who was your regular-person crush?
PAST THEN: I was actually beginning to like myself around here. That's all over now! Otherwise, see Qs 9 & 10
THEN: see Q10.
NOW: Ditto
12) How many piercings did you have?
PAST THEN: One per earlobe
THEN:No changes.
NOW: 'Permanent' - as above. After borrowing Burt for 20 minutes or so - countless but all temporary.
13) How many tattoos did you have?
PAST THEN: Yuck - no way
THEN: Ewww.
NOW: Still none.
14) What was your favorite band/singer?
PAST THEN: Never played favourites - the music/song was more important
THEN: Ditto
NOW: And again - ditto.
15) Had you smoked a cigarette?
PAST THEN: Nope
THEN: Still nope
NOW: One inch of a cigarillo only.
16) Had you gotten drunk?
PAST THEN: Twice [Oct in Tucson made 3]
THEN: Thrice.
NOW: No change on this count
17) Looking back at your decade(s)-ago self, are you where you thought you would be in 2006?
Fuck, no. [A direct quote from
capnoblivious ] While I've never been one to think about myself in much of a 'future' tense, I never imagined that I would still be stuck under this black cloud or being no closer to answering the questions I had about myself back then. I suck at this life thing!
Going back the twenty years, I still didn't have any real long-term plans, I didn't even know if I was going to make it past 25 [had a sort of premonition around 16 that I would cease to age at 25 and whilst I didn't have my portrait painted, for many years, well into my 30s, people would think me as 25]. I had started to get a handle on my life though. Had a good job [or so I thought], a nice income, lived in a nice apartment with a great flatmate. I was role-playing on a regular basis at NSW Wargamers [near Central] and therefore my stress levels were under control. The near future was looking good [and looked even better just a few months later]. '86 was probably the best year of my life [Trip to the US not withstanding ;) ]
David happened in '87 - nuff said!
