"I didn't know [what was in them]" was the correct response after hearing that the parcels left on the hot stove top contained DVDs.
Leaving said parcels [or any mail addressed to me] there whilst cooking does not make this a good idea by any stretch of the imagination. This is why I usually have my mail sent to a PO box. More fool me for making an exception to my own rule.
