See... this is exactly what poloticians do to grab your attention. They say something that sounds great and interesting to get you to listen to them.
Let's use Romney as an example:

I don't know how anyone can think it's not a life after seeing a sonogram. Of course the sonogram doesn't show a lot until you get futher along, but at my doctor's office they required one at my first visit because I told them I believed I was pregnant and had taken a couple home pregnancy tests. They did a different kind of sonogram than the kind where you use an instrument on your belly. When I was just realizing I was pregnant (at 6 weeks) they gave me this kind of sonogram with a tool that goes inside you for a few minutes. We could already see something the size of an apple seed with a pulsing heart and when they had me hold my breath we could hear the baby's heart beat. My last visit was at 18 weeks and 5 days and we could see a LOT. At only 6 weeks there was no denying there was something living inside me.

Anyway, for the people that don't believe it's a life, that's unfortunate to me.

And as for condoms... well, they are against some people's religion (like mine) and we're told to use the natural family planning method. And some people used to (or may still) use the rhythm method. We went to an engaged encounter weekend (weekend for engaged couples) and two of the speakers have been married a long time. They said when they got married they used the rhythm method and it worked for them, though I don't know how effective it usually is. I think that natural family planning is a spin off of the rhythm method. So yes, there are ways to monitor your chances of pregnancy. Honestly, I didn't think I would get pregnant because of ignorance on pre-ejaculate. Maybe that's the case with some others.

I would say most people are influenced by their family's opinion, up to a point. Especially children. I was influenced by my family's opinion, obviously, but I'm old enough to change my mind and I haven't. I don't believe in abortion. I felt strongly about this before I discovered that my grandmother was told she would put her own life at risk by giving birth to my mother. Basically, that concept that an abortion would save her life was put into play. But, she gave birth to my mom, anyway. And guess what? The doctors were wrong. They are both alive. And I don't see how I could stand here and argue for abortion when I would not exist if my grandmother had one. This is not to say that there aren't extreme circumstances where one's life really could be at stake, but losing a life to save a life is understandable.
I think it's okay for opinions to change over years, but if someone changes their opinion on a huge issue and is looking for votes, that's something serious. I haven't been following much so I don't know what was said about the abortion issue in the media lately. I'm still trying to find a candidate with a shot that is against abortion and capital punishment. That's like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Basically I believe if you can't handle a baby financially (or for some other reason) adoption is an option. I went to the health clinic recently to get a blood test for our marriage license. They had a flyer that said, "if you can't keep your baby, we can." I know there are alternatives to abortion.
