Mika Whitepaws
...Oh dear this could get long and rant-y.
Mika is the biggest hot mess I've ever seen, even before she ended up in Jigoku.
Well, okay, before Jig she was only a tiny mess, with the inferiority complex, the belief that she wasn't as good as anyone and the fact that she knows she'll never amount to anything (comes with being the delta in the pack), Mika has never really had any sense of confidence in herself unless it was in defense or support of others. She's used to being verbally bullied and comes to expect it, she always suspects some underlying intentions behind people offering her any kind of compliment. It's hard for her to see sincerity in the actions of anyone who does things for her out of good will. Because if they're doing something just for her then there has to be some kind of ulterior motive because no one would bother with her. She's not worth their time or their efforts and she's not the kind of person anyone wants to do things for. Never has and never will be. Jigoku has taken that insecurity and ratcheted it up to well over fifteen.
Her mistrust of strangers has only intensified, because you never know when they'll turn out to be raving psychopathic lunatics who want to either eat you alive, skin you and then eat you, murder you brutally and then eat you, or just turn out to be a vampire and mindrape you before sucking you dry.
Everyone will leave her, everyone will abandon her when she needs them most. It's never intentional, but it will happen and there is nothing she can do to stop it. They will hurt her and crush her emotionally through apathy or ignorance, leaving her raw and bleeding. Obviously the solution to this is to be a bristle-y, standoffish, snarky bitch and be caustic and sarcastic at every turn.
It's a double-edged sword though, because Mika is a very social animal and needs physical and emotional reassurance and comfort. She doesn't want to be thrown away, she doesn't want to be alone, and she can't bear the thought of being shoved aside because no one wants her anymore. She is terrified of being abandoned, being alone, of being pushed around and bullied and beaten down and told she's never good enough. She loves her friends like her family, she'll do anything for them, but when they cut her down by accident because she can't spit out her true feelings because she's terrified to admit them only makes her more reluctant to share what's on her mind.
She will never admit to being in love because she's not the kind of person people love. There's always someone better, someone who swoops in and is the perfect match. Or how her friend insisted on marrying her but only as a cover so he could take her home with him and use her to placate his mother because he was actually very much a homosexual. Mika never recovered from that or the fact that when she finally grew the spine to confess to the guy she'd fallen for, he was already shacking up with another woman who was also her friend. Mika cannot cope with rejection, so she never tries to put herself in a place where rejection is possible. After all, if she never says anything, there's nothing she can be rejected for.
The end! I might add more to this later, but it'll take some thinking.
