For Kels, you know why. XD

Sakurai hardly had any warning before she dropped down out of the trees on him like an angry Inuzuka. There was a panicked moment of struggle where everything was a blur of limbs and he landed at least one solid punch on her, making her flinch, blood splattering everywhere before they dropped to the forest floor like a dead weight. He yelped when she pinned him hard, a harsh growl filling his ears as she hovered above him, backlit by the sun, giving the feral kunoichi a golden halo. Her voice was a soft, melodious alto that made him think of summer and golden sunlight on open fields and warm honey.
"Why were you following me?" He saw a flash of sharp fangs behind soft lips as fiery eyes glared down at him, inhuman slitted pupils shifting as she scanned his face. Swallowing hard, Sakurai licked his lips, a small corner of his mind noting that they were split as the taste of metal filled his mouth.
Hah! She's gonna be the one feeling it in the morning, though! The sharp retort was dampened by the thought that he might not survive to see tomorrow. She had a terrifying chakra that he could practically taste.
"In time of war all suspicious shinobi are to be monitored at all times by order of the Hokage." Pale jade eyes flickered with fear for a brief instant as he saw one elegant tanned hand shift out of the corner of his eye, the thick claws glinting in the sunlight. He fought to choke down the lump in his throat, but froze instantly as the delicate fingers sifted through his hair. Pink strands shimmering in the sunlight as Sakurai's heart began to pound. Enemy kunoichi had often made remarks about his hair, he'd become something of a novelty and he felt a sickening lurch in his stomach as those animalistic eyes narrowed, her face shrouded behind an unruly crop of bangs.
Those eyes trained on his face in an instant and he could have sworn his heart stopped. "Sakurai-kun..." Something about the way she breathed his name, the light in her eyes made him feel like one of the Nara deer trapped in the lights of an oncoming train. "You idiot..."
Suddenly he found a Konoha hitae-ate nearly pressed into his nose. "I am a local shinobi."
The metal plate was pulled out of his face and she leaned back to toss her thick hair out of the way before tying it on. No longer backlit, the sunlight poured over streamlined features that no longer looked like the round-faced pigtailed girl that had followed him everywhere. The kunoichi that crouched over him was all liquid steel spring-coiled muscle under soft tanned skin, her golden hair falling down to mid-back, and she had a fearsome set of claws on both her hands and feet. But when she laughed and grinned down at him--not counting her fangs--as the blue of her eyes sparkled behind the thick screen of her eyelashes, it was all Naruko.
"I leave for a few years and you forget me completely, Sakurai-kun, you're so mean!" She wailed in mock-protest, he sat up, and something in his eyes made her trail off uncertainly. He wasn't sure if the flush on her marked cheeks was a trick of the light or not.
"No, not completely." The slightly breathless quality of his voice made her lean back, and this time it was her turn to swallow uncomfortably.
A lot of things had changed since she'd left, after all.
