Finally got everything squared away with the bike rig and we went for our first test drive around the neighborhood. I wasn't really happy with the lack of support the seat belt system in the trailer offered Jake since he's still unstable, so I put his carseat inside and hooked it up like you would in a car without the base. I had to create a new seat belt strap since the original was too short. A trip to REI and 5 minutes on the sewing machine fixed that problem. He's much more secure like this.
He seemed pretty happy about the whole thing. We went around the neighborhood as long as I could, and he was smiling when we got back. I couldn't look back to see him while riding or we'd have crashed. Tomorrow we're going to try out a paved trail at a park nearby, and this weekend we're going to hit either the Silver Comet trail or the Rockdale River trail with Jason.
Bike riding is hard, yo. Overweight, out of shape woman on bike = huff, puff, pant. Overweight, out of shape woman on bike pulling trailer with 16 pound infant inside = Holy god I'm going to die. Still fun though. :)
I'm pretty proud of this. In total I spent $53 for this rig. $25 for the bike, $25 for the trailer and $3 for the strap and buckle. The trailer canopy shows a little wear, but is otherwise in great condition. The bike is like new.
