Okay, so, I usually rely on empiricism to inform my worldview and when something happens to me with enough frequency, I no longer view it as a coincidence. Tonight, however, shook my view a little.
This afternoon in therapy, I delved into my current disconnect from my animal spirituality as well as the loss of, and separation from, the pack I belonged to in Wisconsin and the fact that I really don't have anyone in Denver with which to interact as a wolf. I have been trying to integrate with the Denver furry community to help with this disconnect, and tonight, I went out to Tracks night club because there was supposed to be a furry meetup there. Unfortunately, I never found any other furries while I was at the club, but something else very strange happened.
When I got to the club, I found that I had forgotten my wallet, so I had to run back to my house to retrieve it. On the way back to the club, I was sitting at the Garrison and 6th ave stoplight when a fox ran across the road, toward my car, and then around the back of me. I got very excited and started making squee noises. After I decided to leave the club, I got on the entrance ramp to I-70 at the mousetrap (the interchange with I-25), and as I passed the small grassy section where the ramps to I-25 south and I-70 west diverged, I saw a coyote sniffing around. I'm used to seeing them around the open space parks, but not in the middle of major highway interchanges. I then proceeded to Clancy's pub where I sang karaoke, and on the way home, I saw another coyote at the intersection of Kipling and 10th. This was right after I remembered the fact that I had already seen two animals on my travels and thought it would be funny if I saw another while dismissing the possibility at the same time.
So, yeah, now I'm at an impasse with myself. Was this all just a coincidence, or was there a reason I saw those animals tonight? I've never seen so many in the middle of the city and outside the territory of parks on one night, and the fact that they lined up sequentially with each leg of my journey tonight is also suspect. I don't deny the hope that there was a connection and that they might have been sent to watch for me, but my rational side is not overly enamored with that idea.
At any rate, it was really cool. =-p
