Confessions of a carb addict

Okay. So. Today is day one. I am announcing it to the world so that this time, unlike the many other day ones I have been through, people will KNOW. Oh, and I also want to say as a caveat that the comment about people suggesting whole wheat was NOT aimed at you, in case you were worried. You were only one of many, MANY people who have said that over the years and especially in recent weeks. Just today, my coworker Keryn (who regularly snacks on tiny organic salads at lunch, has a distaste for fast food, and is lean as a whippet) said "I don't see why you have to cut out ALL carbs. Why can't you just, you know, cut down?"

And that seems to be the general opinion. Why don't I just, you know, stop eating so much sugar? Why not just, like, promise myself three crackers for going on a one hour walk?

On facebook, I had veganism thrown at me as a solution to my problems.

I'm sure all these strategies would work for other people... and I wish they would work for me... but I've spent the last couple of years trying to find another way around my weight problem. Small portions, restricted calories... and yet I have gained 20 pounds since my wedding last June. I'm thinking it's not working.

And I think you're right that this is one of the harder problems to break, mostly because I get very little support. Instead I get responses like I got today at work. It makes me so ashamed, that what seems so obviously easy to others seems to be so impossible for me.
