I am in the forest-young and just barely past the age of turning and without a care in the world, almost. I am running with Matt, as he was before meeting his ungulate. I had such childish hopes for us. Oh, I could envision our children on the best of days but right now, all there was to worry about was the wind against our fur, the rocks and moss beneath our paws as we raced through the wooded areas with reckless abandon. The sharing of our first kill of rabbit, small as it was, felt like a shared victory. Our parents would surely kill us or at least admonish when we flipped back. We did not care. The time for caring would come later when the responsibilities of the pack divided us and he and I took on our life mates.
