Culture shock!

I've always been one facinated by asian culture. especially chinese and japanese. Well yesterday i got close to feeling what it's like to be chinese.

John and I met up with his co-worker Alex, whom we are to be moving into a 3 bedroom apartment with at some point this year. supposedly anyways... but yeah he took us to this place in chinatown called the ocean palace.. im not kidding you this place probably cost millions to bulid and set up. and they seat you and give you a pitcher of jasmine tea ( delicious tea i might add ) along with a clipboard and all these people push carts around with various exotic chinese dishes on them. and you stop them and ask them for an order of it if you like it and they mark it on your clipboard and it all adds up at the end for your total bill. some of the stuff was great like the chinese BBQ which was bbq wrapped in a white bread type coating. Taro root dumplings FTW, pork dumplings, sticky rice.. all delicious but there were some items that made me want to gag that Alex loved.. like the shrimp dumplings and the huge broccli leaves. blech..
they also had duck feet which none of us would touch with a 10 foot pole. a great place and i hope to go back someday.

After that we went to this place that i guess you could say reminded me of a chinese jamba juice lol. save for what they served was a smoothie like drink that you pick one of the many flavors and they put these tapioca balls in the drink and they give you this huge staw that you put in there and when you drink it the tapioca balls come up through the straws and you eat them. it was pretty tasty i must admit.

after that we walked around the chinese mall, it wasn't the galleria and was pretty small but some of the shops were cool, i especially liked the art shop, i swear you had to be a millionare to afford anything in there but i sure could have done some great decorating with some of the paintings.

after that we went home. all and all it was a great experience and im sure that if we room with Alex there will be many more days similar to this.
