Ok, I've finally seen the first three discs of Firefly and I have one question....
How, in the name of all things good and true, did I not see this show when it was on the air! Seriously, how on earth did I manage to miss a show that is the perfect blend of Western and Sci-fi, which are my two all time favorite tv genres? Plus, the characters...there is almost always once character in a show that I don't like, or that I mentally sort of erase from the show, but I love all of the characters. They're great, they're diverse, they're complex, they're well written...they're real.
The interspersion of Chinese could have sucked, could have been horribly painful, but it doesn't, it sounds natural. I've never seen...heard? it done that well. Normally it sounds awkward and fake when writers try to do that, it's jarring, but I've yet to feel that from this show.
I very nearly wept for joy when I realized that when they were showing exterior shots? There was no sound!
Oh, and
faedrake curse you for pointing out that they use Shiny as a slang word. Somehow it had already drifted into the edges of my vocabulary (and I have no idea how that happened) now it's firmly entrenched right next to Spiffy which I use all the time. Should be fun explaining it the first time I use it around work, which I inevitably will.
I think the series DVDs and the movie going to the top of my 'things to buy when I have some spare cash' list, and very few movies an deven fewer tv shows go on that list.
