The Weekend

Friday, I came down to the parents house to help mom pack up some stuff and stock her pantry. Also stopped by to visit briefly with Yoda and do our semi-annual "who have you seen from high school that I haven't and what are they up to?" game. Woo.

Old habits die hard, I guess, as even though there's absolutely no threat in the house anymore, I still have difficulty sleeping well and through the night when I'm here. My brain goes back into childhood-mode, listening for any abnormal sound that could indicate someone coming up the stairs or opening my door.

The lack of sleep did give me a chance to catch up on some reading, so I started markedformetal's book...and then proceeded to read half the thing in one sitting. Good book and between reading last night and probably tonight at work, I'll finish it soon.

Last night was...how to describe it... Warm. Warm, homemade feelings that I haven't had in a long time. The snow was coming down pretty good (and it was so gorgeous!!!), so I was afraid to venture very far after fixing some stuff around the house. Nicole and I decided to set up Mom's Christmas Tree and giggled over "girly" things (like her squeaky bra and my iron-clad cup padding), blasted Christmas music from KOSI ("Where we'll play Christmas music all day and all night, you'll want to bash your head in by December 10th"), did a quick dinner run (and bought Mom some flowers...she's big on flowers), and then laughed more over dinner. It was just a good night that felt like some Christmas memories of the past - where things were happy and warm and we were together and coherent. Still felt wierd not to hang Dad's stocking on the mantle, though...

Now I must manage my time better and get off this thing and get on the piano for the remaining 2 hours that I'm here. That's the downside to this house - I can never find enough time to get all the piano playing that I want in.

mom, feelings
