Here, there, everywhere

*Sheepishly grins and waves at flist*

How y’all doing?  I hope all is going well for everyone.  I really haven’t meant to ignore everyone for so long.

Hubby and I are doing well, but we’ve been working our behinds off.  Between work, conferences, family issues and a few vacation days I’ve slept in my own bed less than 40 nights out of the past four months.  It’s crazy!  I’m hoping now things will slow down a bit, but we’re heading upstate again tonight.  Poor hubby is so indulgent of me - he didn’t even blink when the first thing I checked out is if there was a bookstore nearby doing the midnight sale. ;-)

And on that subject, what’s with the whole world trying to spoil everyone?  Not even the radio is safe anymore.  Since most of the so called spoilers I’ve heard contradict each other, I’m not believing anything until I read it myself.  While waiting in line for HBP, several kids immediately flipped to the ending then shouted out spoilers, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens again.  But until then I’m trying to remain ignorant.  Is everyone else burying their heads in the sand?

Behind the cut are thoughts and predictions only.  Most are the same as I listed several months ago, but I’m just curious as to how close everyone is at actual guessing.

My Predictions for Deathly Hallows:   (and I hope I'm proven wrong on several of them)

~JKR gets mobbed.  Oops, no, wait.  We love Jo.  Really, we do.

~Snape is vindicated, but still has a bad ending.  I don’t think he gets killed, but not nice stuff happens to him.  Harry eventually acknowledges and sort of forgives him.

~Draco is redeemed, not killed, but also has not nice things happen to him. He did have the Dark Mark in HBP.

~Lucius isn’t redeemed, and does get killed.

~Narcissa is almost redeemed, but gets killed anyway.

~ Voldemort is forgiven by Harry, then killed by Harry, with love being a major factor.

~Petunia comes into her own somehow.

~Dumbledore is really dead, but still in charge of things, either through his new portrait or some other “Luke, use the force” way.

~Harry does not die, but almost wishes he had at the end.

~The group of friends does not remain intact; either Ron, Hermione, Ginny or Neville dies. Likely more than one.  Ron has been set up as cannon fodder from the very beginning, with his sacrifice with the chess men in the first book and his unicorn hair wand. (the innocent are always the first to die)  But he’s also based on one of JKR’s long time friends, and one of her favorite characters.  Neville also fits as cannon fodder, but I think he’s less likely.  With her tendency to be sneaky, I wouldn’t be surprised if she kills Hermione.  JKR has often said that Hermione and Harry are sort of like her alter-egos, so that would be one way of cutting herself off from the story, a firm ending, without actually killing the main protagonist.

~Harry losses another parent-like figure.  In the last two it’s been Sirius and Dumbledore.  This time my money is on Hagrid, Molly Weasley, Lupin or McGonagall.  All are people he either looks up to or cares for and any would be very demoralizing.

~At least one member of the Weasley clan dies.   There are simply too many of them.

~There is a traitor in their ranks.  Tonks is my first guess, but someone definitely betrays them.

~We see very little of Hogwarts.  No classic 7th year story.

~Dobby and Kreacher both die, at each others hand.

~Aberforth loses his goats, and his bar is burned.

~The Goblins are very important, and eventually fight on the side of the light.

~Dumbledore’s Animagus form was a wasp, not a bee

~Gwarp learns to tap dance.  Oops, sorry, wrong movie.

Things I want answered:

~Just what was the relationship between Severus and Lily?  I don’t think it was romantic, but she sure hints at something.

~Was ‘that boy’ that Petunia mentions James, Severus or someone else?

~Why Severus took the Dark Mark, and why he went back to Dumbledore.  I tend to agree with most people here in that it was Lily’s death, but I hope she does clear it up.

~Anything else dealing with Snape.

Basically I want to know the past and why things happened, but I’m not that keen on the far future.  JKR said that she wraps it all up neatly, but I dearly hope there’s still enough ambiguity to fuel our imaginations.  Absolute knowledge would be quite boring.

Enjoy everyone!  I'm sure we'll be chatting and bemoaning together later.
