When 'Abduction' opens, Taylor Lautner will swagger

In "Abduction," actor Taylor Lautner will have "a different kind of swag than he does as Jacob," director John Singleton predicts. Swag, of course, is short for swagger.

"I put him through his paces," Mr. Singleton recently told MTV News about the movie shot in Pittsburgh during summer 2010. "My goal as a director was to work with him as an actor, for him to have something that's a different character."

Mr. Singleton, who earned writing and directing Oscar nominations for 1991's "Boyz N the Hood," said he wanted the actor known as a "Twilight" werewolf to be strong and charismatic.

"I've done some stuff that I'm sure all the young ladies will really love ... and it's beyond taking his shirt off," the director said. "In this movie, he's Nathan Harper and he's a kick-ass dude."

In "Abduction," Mr. Lautner is thrust into a world of covert espionage after realizing his life is a lie, carefully fabricated to hide something more mysterious and dangerous.

The movie also stars Lily Collins, Alfred Molina, Jason Isaacs, Maria Bello, Sigourney Weaver, Denzel Whitaker and Michael Nyqvist. It is scheduled to arrive in theaters Sept. 23.

At 19, Mr. Lautner is the most famous actor the director has worked with in his career. "When we were shooting this movie, we had 500 to 600 girls and their mothers off the set, trying to get on the set, trying to be around, which was cool," he told MTV.

"After we worked all these hours, he'd go out and he'd graciously shake people's hands and sign autographs."
