Character
Name: Shi-Long Lang
Series: Ace Attorney
Timeline: Taken directly after The Kidnapped Turnabout
Canon Resource Links: Main Wikia, has everything.

Personality:

Lang, the easiest way to describe him in general, is a man. That over-cocky attitude that just shows the amount of pride that he has in himself and his abilities. Hell, every once and awhile you can even find him with a rather snarky remark. Why shouldn't he? He is the most successful agent in Interpol, so it just comes natural to him to flaunt about it. Trust me, he will let you know just how good he is at his job, or at least how good he thinks he is. In short he get can generally annoying really quickly. If you don't agree with how he sees things he is going to challenge you on it, because he's thought it through and it just has to be right. There was only one person that could actually change his opinions like that, and it was one hell of a person, so you shouldn't really try.

He also absolutely loves to do things his own way. In case you hadn't noticed, he's a rather loud and perhaps stunning individual. He dresses up in flashy clothing, he walks up onto crime scenes with about a hundred men. Someone could think that it's just a desperate cry for attention, but thinking that is simply foolish. He does what he feels is the most effective way to deal with things, even if that means making a fool out of himself towards other people. As long as it works, it shouldn't matter. Basically a take of how he views life is that the end justifies the means. This also ties in with what could be seen as his selfishness. As long as someone looks guilty, and he finds enough evidence to deem that they are, they are guilty in his mind.

It's easy to imagine that he's the competitive sort, and it's completely true. It can be from something simple, to winning a game of chess, to things that go on a much grander scale, like being the top employee where he works. When the goal is set in his mind, he needs to achieve it. Although generally honourable to a fault, you could find times where it throws courtesies to the wind.

Although generally loud mouthed, perhaps a little boorish in cases, it's not to say that he is dumb. No, by the contrary Lang is quite the smart man. Although he does have the tendency to overlook some rather simple things, he's an investigator for a reason. It's easy for him to piece things together and to come to natural conclusions, or to even see through some of these ones and go for something deeper. Him being rather aggressive with his job and this natural intelligence just adds to the effectiveness of his investigations. It's hard to find a solid hole or contradiction in Lang's logic.

He holds positions that involve authority in high regard, unless of course, you happen to be a prosecutor. Considering that the only real run-in with a prosecutor that he had was bad, he tends to paint them all with a solid brush. He has such tremendous disrespect towards them, saying that he wants nothing to do with them altogether. They should stay in the courthouse, doing whatever they do. Should you not be a prosecutor, he'll treat you with respect. He knows the trade, he knows what the police force has to go through. This respect will also trade through if you happen to be a good friend of his. You'll find someone that happens to be incredibly loyal to you, loyal like a wolf.

As far as it goes with other people, he tends to treat it like a pack. To him, it's often a thing of mutual respect. As long as you have respect for other people, people will treat you kindly and have the same amount of respect for you. This is especially true for a role of leadership, especially since how he considers it to be of himself as the elder of his pack. He will even take into account of memorizing trivial things, like birthdays. Although this can be basically be seen as a way to win them over, there's certainly more to it. To him it's about establishing bonds, irrefutable pacts between people. Bonds that are that strong can never be broken, and that's something that he finds helps him and others through life. Friendship, camaraderie and respect is the easiest way to get a job done.

He also follows the teachings of his ancestor Lang Zi to an almost ridiculous extent. He finds ways to quote the teachings of this man into conversation. It's usually an attempt to try and teach the other person one of his values, but the messages often lay across as cryptic and aren't taken to heart.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

A strength of Lang is his sheer determination to a goal, which he will stop at nothing to achieve. This also ties in with his intelligence, which to be honest he finds rather admirable about himself. It's basic survival skills that he's going to need to have for the beginning of his journey in Route_29.

He's had plenty of experience with the law, and getting to the top of a tough organization. It's a testament of his natural leadership skills, considering that he was able to gain the respect of all his men. He can easily turn this into respect for his own pokemon, which will be considered close to him. It will make for a team that will trust each other.

He's a naturally intimidating fellow. When you take the fact of the way he dresses, way he speaks, and just his general way of doing things, rounding it all together with that in your face attitude... it's hardly surprising that people can take a dislike to him rather quickly. It's not to say that he's bad, it's just that first

A rather important weakness of his is the fact that he can get flustered rather easily, and consequently can completely screw up his game plan. If he acts just a little too quickly, and say he wants to use a specific move to take out the opponents pokemon, if it happens to fail it will take him a considerable time to get back on his feet.

First Person Sample:

Hey, it's been awhile since I've updated this thing, hasn't it? I'm still trying to figure out what to do here. Houndour and I have been training and working our way towards Violet City, but it's still sort of... boring. Nothing exciting, there needs to be a crime, or something that can make it more fun around here. I can see it in his eyes too, maybe we just need a strong trainer to fight.

It needs to stop raining soon, or my jacket is going to get ruined--

Hey, what are you doing!? Houndour get back here with that!

... Lang zi says: A cub that disrespects others shall soon feel the disciplinary bite of an elder. That should teach him for stealing my lunch.

Third Person Sample:

Lang was currently sitting on a hill, his jacket right next to him. The town was nice, quaint, and sort of reminded him of the countryside of Zheng Fa. He wasn't exactly sure how he had gotten here, but in his mind that could all wait. He was thinking of it as a vacation. Although he was certainly alarmed at the sudden transportation, there were just more pressing matters to attend to.

Well, it was more that something ran into him. This little... black, dog, thing. Then one of the stupid devices in his pocket started to go off. After fumbling with the thing, Lang discovered that this... pokedex, was calling the dog a Houndour. Seemed that many creatures like it inhabited the land, it was a useful piece of information to have. He turned on his heels and left. It followed.

“Oh, I get it. You homeless?” Lang scratched it behind the ears, which was perhaps a risky move, but the pokemon seemed to respond positively. It gave a bark of delight. The agent looked back down at the device, seemed that it gave info on the pokemon too. How did he get this? It would be hard to imagine this situation without it.

“This thing told me that you have a pack, you shouldn't be keeping your leader waiting.” Lang fully knew the rules and responsibilities of the pack, this Houndour should already be on its way back. Yet it continued to follow.

“If you want to be with me, you have to follow my teachings. I'm the pack leader now. You got it?” He had crouched down to be on level with the pokemon, and it was almost that he could see a fierce determination in its eyes. It was settled, the journey would start with them both together.
