Pete shyly passed Remus the food. "Sorry, I just really like them," he blushed. Then he looke around at James, Sirius, and Remus, watching their hopeful eyes. "You-you mean right in front of everyone, in the Great Hall?" His throat glumped as he swallowed hard. "D'you think we'll get caught?" he hissed.
"Not if we can come up with a good enough diversion. Which we haven't thought about yet. Any ideas?" Sirius grinned as he thought of something. "But I do suggest you get down low when it happens. There's likely to be a few hexes flying. They have no sense of humour."
Pete looked wide-eyed at Remus. "You haven't planned it yet?" Then he leaned across the table and whispered fervently in his ear. "You're going to let those two loose without even a hint of a plan?"
Realising he was having a private conversation with Remus he sat back down and looked shyly as Sirius and James. "S-sorry, mates, I...what I said is...is that," he stuttered. Then finally it came out like a flood. "Is it wise to let you two loose without a plan. I'm sorry, I didn't mean it, but you have to admit, I mean you don't have to admit, but it is hard to deny....oh bugger."
James laughed heartily. "Calm down, Petey-boy," he said, sobering. "We don't care, I'll easily admit it." He looked at Sirius for some back up on it.
"Besides, it would be nice to have a plan since we're openly doing this in the Great Hall." Then his eyes narrowed conspiratorily as he looked at his two mates across from him. "Playful banter is easily flirting between you two. Which brings me to my next point. You two can create the diversion," he smirked.
Remus sighed. "I don't do the public diversions. That's you and Sirius. Most people wouldn't pay attention and I rather like that." He turned to look at James for a moment. "I have a minor plan. It was the best I could do in a very few minutes."
"Relax. it's easy. Me and James will figure out something in a minute while Rem throws a couple of quick hexes at the Slyths. What's the worst that can happen?"
"Come on, Remus, have a little fun...you could always be prefectish and have a go at someone." The throught struck him. "You know, that old cat might be happy to see you reprimanding one of your mates for a chance," he grinned.
Pete lifted his head from his hands having completely regretted saying that about his mates. "Y-you could have a go at me," he suggested, wanting to contribute in some way.
Remus gave them all three a very slow and evil smile. He waited before answering.
"Alright boys. Pete you slide under the table when I start yelling at both these blokes." He turned to James. "You start loudly arguing about hexes and "accidently" hex the Slytherin's benches." Remus turned to Sirius and you jump in and while you are defending James. Pete can cast the rain charm. I will get mad and 'accidently' turn the rain green.
James inhaled his toast and marmalade; it wasn't much of a meal, but it was food nonetheless. "You know," he said grinning, "Sirius and I could always just sing a happy birthday song to McGonagal." Winking at Sirius, he swallowed his last bite. "I'm ready when you are mates."
"I'm good and ready to hide," he laughed tightly, "it's the only thing I'm good for." Pulling at his collar he looked nervously at Remus. "Will you show me the rain charm one last time?" When he got nervous, Pete forgot the things even he was supposed to be good at.
Remus nodded and told Peter softly the charm and wand movements. He was sure Pete would be brilliant. He then nooded to the other two boys and stood up.
In a very loud voice and with a frown, Remus said," I am telling you both, Potter and Black, you can't keep hexing people!"

He listened to Remus' plan, which had just one flaw, as much as he could see. "Hang on, don't I get to actually do anything?"
