What's Halloween? I hear people talking about it. Is it anything like Samhain? Because I know that's going to be soon.

Another thing...does anyone know if there are turnips at the grocery store? Because I'll need them for the end of the month.

It's the best holiday ever.

[Wow, you can actually hear childish enthusiasm spreading through his voice. Hell, he barely sounds like himself for once.]

Really? What do people do for it?

Lots of stuff. Like, okay, the main thing is "trick or treat".

See, for that, a lot of the younger kids dress up in costumes and go door to door, saying "trick or treat", and the people in the houses give them candy. See, the thing is that the kids either get a "treat", or they play a trick on the people in the house if they're denied.

But that's for the littler kids. Me? I'm totally all about the trick part.

Oh. So you still wear costumes...

So you go around pulling pranks on people?

Still wear costumes? Well, I mean, people have always worn costumes for part of Halloween. It's just part of it.

[Just laughter. But not bitter or cynical. Actually childish.]

Yeah! That's the BEST part of Halloween, playing pranks on others and scaryin' them a little bit.

It's important to wear costumes and masks for Samhain.

Well, that doesn't sound so bad!

For what?

Sound bad? It's awesome! It's the perfect excuse to screw and scare people for a night. If there is one day of the year, ONE, that I would do anything for? It's Halloween.

Samhain. The end of summer harvest festival. You have to dress up so that the spirits of the dead don't get you.

You sound like you like this day a lot~

Pfft. What'd that do? You're just dressing up. Why would friggin' spirits care?

Like it a lot?

No.

I love it. It's the one good day of the year.

Because if you don't dress up, the dead can steal you away. On Samhain, the border between this world and the otherworld is thin.

[Says this in a manner suggesting that it is srs bizness.]

Okay, but why does dressing up matter? I mean, are the spirits just stupid as dirt and it tricks them or something?

The dead aren't very smart! So if you wear white and cover your face with a mask, they'll think you're one of them and leave you alone. I just change my shape on that night, and they don't get me.

Huh. Well, that explains the whole thing about the "bed-sheet" ghost then.

Don't really have to worry about that anymore. ...Unless they do that here.

I don't know if there are dead spirits here at all, though...if no one stays dead here.

Yeah, but that's the thing. That doesn't mean this town doesn't like to screw with us. Maybe it has some way of releasing them on us or something. There's been weirder crap happening here.

I never thought I'd hate someplace worse then home, but here we are. I hate this town.

Mm. So I'll be very careful.
