Oakbank Horse Races!

Apr 15, 2009 00:13

Yesterday was a LONG day for us. We were up by 6am and had the car packed by 630. Our destination: Oakbank Racetrack! It is apparently the biggest horse race in the Southern Hemisphere (yes, its bigger than the Melbourne Cup!).

Tradition has it that you head there early in your car to secure a park along the racetrack. So we arrived just after 7, unloaded the car, and cranked up the BBQ! Bacon, eggs, champagne - what more could you ask for....

Unpacking the car.

Sorting chairs.

Once we were settled with full tummies we chatted for a bit, relaxed and then walked around the actual track (it's another tradition!).

Me at the finish line.

It wasn't long before the horse races started and we had a front row seat for the whole day. David's daughters joined us during the day too, so we had lunch and a few drinks with them.

David looking cool!

Our view of the starting gates for the last race!

Before I knew it, it was time to go home. Had such a great day and can't wait for next year. Though I'll be careful not to get sunburnt next time :)
