Methods to survive a solitary Winter, '08-'09:

Cut amount of waking hours.

Smoke more cigarettes, using rationale that they will make you warmer and are easier to smoke at this time of year. An added bonus is their contribution to the chronic bronchitis you get around these months, allowing an easier reduction of aforementioned waking hours.

If necessary to be outside, try to ignore your surroundings. Those with somebody to keep warm cull disdain, singular males reaffirm your position, singular females always look good in winter coats.

Remember that it is all likely a cause of culture shock and a disease with a ridiculous acronym that probably doesn't really exist.

Stop reading that Rilke poem about Autumn.

Remember to eat daily, cooking heats up the house and your blood sugar needs attending. Try not to default to bread rolls for every meal of the day.

Going out might give you some company, although avoid multiple bachelor dinners at ethnic restaurants, it is a true sign of desperation.

Set daily tasks to stay productive, such as putting on pants.

If in the habit of 'nesting', try to make it productive, and not simply empty Styrofoam take away containers and dirty laundry.

Remember they say Spring is supposed to be beautiful here.
