OK, Harvard's backwardness redeemed itself--we got free food when we turned in our registration papers. Think of how much free food we missed at WashU in all those semesters of online registration.
My second class started this week. There are three professors teaching it, one of whom has been lecturing this week. He is an EXCELLENT lecturer, probably one of the best I've ever had. He makes things very clear, very intuitive, and if you ask him to clarify, he doesn't just repeat what he said before, but thinks of a different way to say it. It also helps that the class is mainly neuro grad students, plus two general bio grad students, a psychology post-doc and an anaesthesiology resident. The questions that get asked are science-y, as opposed to questions asked in the class which is more than half med students, which are much more course organization/testing related.
I'm actually very happy with my classes so far. Most of the stuff we've covered in my Intro neuro class has been stuff I've heard of, but in a LOT more detail. Some of the detail is interesting, some of it is really boring, but all probably good to know. In fact, I went to a seminar on Tuesday which I would have completely not understood had I not done a problem set on a similar phenomenon the previous night. It was actually very exciting to understand what was going on. Also it was exciting that the guy giving the seminar was from Canada and said "aboot."
