dream a little dream of me? [locked to galahad timed for stark-wake up from homeplot]

Dany was disoriented to say the least. She had spent four days trapped in Winterfell and at least two of them had ended with her in tears. It was like all seven hells at once and she didn't know what she had done to deserve it ( Read more... )

Galahad was in a light sleep, the sort that had taken him for no more than a few hours at a time as he watched over Daenerys. Some strange magic of a sort had taken half the compound to sleep, and there was nothing more Galahad could do than make sure she had water and was not disturbed. His uselessness aggravated him more than anything else.

His sleep was light enough to catch the smallest movement from Dany. He was awake and at her side in moments. "Stay still," he said softly, brushing hair out of her face. "You've been asleep for days." He reached for the waterskin by his side and held it against her mouth.

Dany drank deep of it. She hadn't been so thirsty in over a year, but this was a state she had not forgotten. Hunger would be realized next, she knew, but right now she needed to bury herself in his arms.

She drained the skin, and took all her physical strength to sit up and pull him tight. "I thought I'd never see you again," she whispered, voice hoarser than usual, but not nearly so bad as it might've been. "I thought you were gone, that I'd-" and then his words caught up with her. "Asleep?"

Galahad held her gently, doing his best not to shake as he held her. "I thought you'd never wake," he admitted softly. He drew back to look at her, brushing a thumb over her cheek. He hadn't realized just how scared he'd been when she was asleep, never knowing when she'd wake, or if she ever would.

"Yes, asleep," he said with a nod. "It was another island affliction, about half this time. All asleep, not waking for four days."

She sat there in disbelief for several moments. "A dream?" She licked her lips and tried to focus on all of this. It had to have been a dream which meant that none of it was real and thank Gods for that.

"It was so real," she whispered, voice dropping to match his. She did not bother to check the shaking in her hand as she cupped his cheek.

She had regretted not telling him so much while she was there. After all, how was he to find her if he did not know where to look? How would he survive if he did not know the hate that went with her bloodline? She kissed him once, needing to prove to herself that he was as real as she. "I need to tell you of the world I come from," she whispered. "I have lingered in the shadow of your trust far too long, my Knight."

It was possible that she was shaking even harder now as she thought on it.

Somewhere not too far away, Drogon thought himself stretching out in a feather bed only to find himself falling from a tree and into a pool of water.

Galahad shook his head at her words even as he kissed her back once. He chose to keep her in his trust, as he'd chosen to pledge himself to her. "Tell me all you wish," he said, holding her close, trying to soothe her shaking away. "You are safe here now, with me."

Safe, of course. She had always been safe with him. She had never been given cause to doubt either him or his kin. Dany took a deep breath and began.

"I am Daenerys Targaryen, called Stormborn." There was no going back now. Even though she had not said the words in weeks, they still rolled off her tongue as if she had heard them every day of her life. "The Unburnt, Mother of Dragons, Khaleesi of the Dothraki, and True Queen of the Seven Kingdoms."

She did not wait long for his reaction to that. "For as long as I can remember, I've been running for my life," she began carefully. And then she found herself relating to him the whole of her story. Well, not the whole of it, but enough to at least whet his appetite for her. From the House with the Red Door, to Viserys's abuse and her arranged marriage to Drogo. She told of her brother's treachery and greed and how it lead to his demise. She told him of the prophecy regarding Rhaego and how the maegi ended all of that out of Dany's own need to save her husband. She told of the birth of ( ... )

Galahad listened quietly as Dany told her tale. Only you, he could almost imagine Gawain saying, only you would find yourself a queen. By the time she ended her story, Galahad was shaking just as much as she had been.

He wiped her few tears away with his thumbs, quiet for a long moment as he tried to figure out what to say. There were no proper words he could think of for this. Arthur had always found words for any occasion, never Galahad. Even so, Galahad knew the only thing he could easily give Dany was himself. She needed him as much as he was starting to need her.

"I don't know what to say," he said honestly and quietly, a small smile on his lips. "But I'll still be here, if you would still have me."

He knows. Not the whole of it, of course, but enough that some part of her was instinctively wary. After all, what man wouldn't want her if only to name himself King? She had become used to people lusting after her power and especially her dragons.

But Galahad had known none of that before now. None. And still he smiled at her as if nothing had changed between them.

"I do not think I have the strength in me to send you away, my Galahad, even if I wanted to." And she prayed to the Gods every night that she never had to. Already, she had lost too many men dear to her. She would not count this knight among them.

"I'd come knocking down your door even if you had," he said, grinning in relief at her words. He hadn't actually believed she'd say no, but to hear her say that still meant everything. "You're stuck with me," he continued quietly, brushing hair out of her face.

He kissed her again softly, almost as if to make sure that yes, she was there and awake in his arms. "You've been asleep for four days," he said, his mouth brushing against hers. "You must be hungry."

Dany could think of a thousand words to describe how she felt towards him, and 'stuck' was definitely one of them.

Food.

She hadn't realized she was hungry until Galahad said as much. Before she could reply, her stomache decided to take matters into its own hands, answering him with a low rumble. She laughed and flushed slightly. "I am, yes. What food have we?"
