saw
gemma hayes on tuesday and
kristeen young on wednesday. haven't really had time to do a proper review. but who am i fooling? how often do i actually do a proper review? ;) here are a few thoughts though....
gemma was pretty good. i'm not sure what i was expecting. i really liked her album night on my side and had no idea that she has a second effort, the roads don't love you. turns out the second record is a bit more polished and produced than the first record -- or says the reviews at amazon -- but that was pretty obvious comparing the new songs to the old songs from her set. so, while i enjoyed her performance i wasn't that impressed. here are a few songs from the show. the first two are from the first album while the third is the new song which i liked the most of the ones she included in the set. it kind of reminds me of something tara maclean or kristy thirsk might have done.
Hanging AroundBack Of My HandNothing Can added bonus:
gemma's purty! as for kristeen, she did the same set as last week at sin-e. the sound was better here, which was nice. it was good to hear the two new-to-me songs, "you ruined everything" and "mixed kids", again. as some may recall, "mixed kids" totally threw me for a loop last week. this time, however, it made total sense. i guess part of it was the improved sound but i'm sure it was just knowing what to expect helped as well. so, i have to take back everything i said about it before. it does have a melody (well, some of the time). it's still a strange song though! now, you can hear for yourself!
You Ruined EverythingMixed Kids enjoy!
