If Oprah doesn't know about this, I think she would want to given the enormity of its discriminatory/abusive wrongness and her own very public history of her struggles with her weight. Also, if she can bring the Texas cattle industry to its knees with an offhand comment, imagine what a campaign of righteous indignation can do.
Ditto to what kurayami_hime said. It is disrespectful, and also STUPID, and everyone in the world deserves to know about it. Just tell me where to send my letters.
I still say, Oprah or not, if you send a letter to Mayhall, you should send a copy to local paper, which is the best way to guarantee some sort of response.

I've posted a draft letter over there - thanks for the link! I think listening to this morning's press coverage, and how SURPRISED everyone was at the return to civility, was just kind of the icing on the cake. Respect should be a default, not a surprise.

Kate Harding at Shapely Prose, among others, have picked up this issue; it'll be interesting to see if it gets any mention in the traditional media.
And that was a great post this morning, esp,. in the context of the election, and having watched Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama debate last night.
