How does a person heal emotionally?

Is it just a matter of finding and cognitively rooting out all the negative self-talk one feeds oneself? Are the emotional wounds simply being supported by that self-talk, and once those internal tapes are refuted, will those feeling collapse in on themselves?

I tend to use sex and physical touch as a band-aid to deal with those emotional wounds. Really, I'm the walking wounded, and I don't really know how to solve these problems without leaning on someone else for that support.

But I need some sort of real solution.
