I'm noticing a weird mental tendency for shutting down creatively when approaching mind-mapping software. If I have paper on a clipboard in front of me I'm fine. The problem here is I got into writing on the computer to eliminate the huge stacks of paper notes I can generate when I'm trying to explore an idea. I still have twenty cardboard boxes I still need to sort and burn because of this tendency. And that's only from a year of mental mapping.

So I basically have to find some way of solving this tendency.

Environment has something to do with my creative processes. I can take my laptop outside and get work done for periods of time, until I either get swamped by cats or get too cold to work. Contrary to previous thinking, I cannot type with gloves on. I'm just not dextrous enough, or I haven't found the right gloves, and I've tried fingerless gloves...they're either too warm or the cold gets through to my fingers anyway.

My girth basically demands I have a table in front of me, so writing on buses and such is out for me.

Strangely, I have increased creativity in Linux, although I don't know if this extends to mind-mapping and concept-mapping software. I'm exploring the concepts right now in wikipedia, so when I look for the software I'll actually get hold of the right thing. That may the solution to my problems in all OSs. As to why Linux, I don't know. Maybe the presence of all the games on the laptop is a distraction. Maybe it's something to do with the interface.

Still looking.
