Okay,

so how come whenever I try to reactivate, it's about opera? Probably, to choose the simple answer at this late an hour, because I love opera. Attention, this time it's not that opera, but my slashy darling Don Carlo. At Covent Garden, London. Yep! Crazy me, innit ( Read more... )

I've only heard it in radio, but it was a wonderful performance. Contained three of my favourites - Simon, Ferruccio and the lovely Sir John - plus Kaufman is finally a tenor with a voice and looks hot. You're so lucky to see it live...

Carlo/Posa is OTP. (I also like to think Philip had a thing for Posa... especially when it's a hot Philip.)

Yep, I eel immensely lucky to have been there. It still makes me grin when I think back to it, two months later.

Well everybody could theoretically have a thing for Posa in this opera. Eboli flirts with him and Elisabetta has obviously met him between the acts to, erm, plan protecting Carlo or whatever. :-D
As for Filippo, Furlanetto made Keenlyside kneel at the end of the duet, then extended his hand as if to pet his head, then withdraw at the last second. Whee! And in the Hannover production I saw last year, the Filippo was busy dominating everybody around him and sort of tried to make Posa his dependant loverboy, to which he sort of agreed, in a fidgeting way, for the greater good. That Posa was a bunch of nerves anyway. But on the whole, the concept made sense.

Glad you found this shamefully underused bloglet. Opera slash is such an underexplored genre, really.
