Why my bike, you cowards?
Today (or rather yesterday, or the night before, I didn't leave the house now did I?), for the umpteenth time, my bike was mauled. It's happened before (see various rants in this LJ's past), but never as serious as this time. The lock (a big fat chain affair) was broken, so was the stand and bits of the front and back light. And the stuff was lying around. They could have stolen the bike, but they chose to leave it like that, so I can't help thinking that whoever those fuckers are, they just wanted to hurt me. I know it might be irrational, but I do feel very personal about my things. Especially that old bike that hasn't done any harm to anyone, ever.
And you couldn't have broken my lock or ripped off the stand just like that, you need tools. So my guess is some of the neighbours. There is drunk shouting and stuff out on our street quite often, and the police has been there before, and I once shouted down at them when I heard distinctive bike-molesting sounds through my open window last summer. But still, if they for some reason or other can't stand me or my bike being parked locked to their gutter pipe, for Christ's sake, they could just confront me so I could kick them in the unmentionables couldn't they?
I rang at the neighbours' (those who live ground floor behind the gutter pipe) for preliminary investigation, but the one party (whom I vaguely suspect of being related to the sometime shout-around drunks) claimed to have not seen a single thing, with an embarrassed smile none the less, and the old lady on the other side (who spends most her time peeking out the window or even standing in the doorway) wasn't at home.
I'm so sad about my poor old bike (even if I manage to get it repaired - I won't be able to park it there again) and enraged at a society where assholes like that can run around free right now, and I want an outlet, but shouting at the police won't do any good either. Or would it?
