As a Christian who is considerably active in my community, I have a lot of things that I like to do for fun, within the church as a whole. It is funny, the more my faith in Jesus grows and our friendship develops, the more I seek fun within the church. I still go out with non-Christians and do my best to be a witness to them, but my fun-fun comes from within the body of Christ.
Part of this is getting involved in different things. The church I attend in the morning just finished a women's bible study by Beth Moore, I run the coffee ministry at my church, and I am heavily involved with a group called Landmark Education who specializes in transformative learning. I love doing these things because they allow me to learn by doing. You can read books and watch instructional videos all day long, but until you do it, you will never get it.
My church has just started to become involved with a group that is working to end sex trafficking worldwide. We have had their co-founder speak as well as held a fundraiser for them in the past, but now we are beginning to work with a task-force in the area and working to develop our own. It is something that is extraordinarily important and I am so blessed to be a part of it.
I cannot imagine waking up each day knowing that I was going to be abused by at least one person that day because even if they do not have clients on a specific day (usually due to injuries), their owner will probably abuse them and quite possibly the other girls. Never, ever should a child (or any person) wake up knowing that they will be hurt that day and there is nothing to be done about it.
No one should live without hope. When there are people waking up without the will to go on, that is when we know we have failed as a society and as Christians. I by no means think I can free every single person in sex trafficking, but if I can educate one person, I have made a significant impact. Maybe that is all any of us can ask or be. Maybe that is all we should be striving for. If we wake up thinking we can free every person we will burn our selves out. If we wake up thinking I can teach one person about the dangers of sex trafficking today, we will always achieve that goal.
