WHAT JUNNO HEARD

Junno ran his hands through his hair and admired his look in the mirror. He grinned, and then left the washroom to head back to their dressing room. He was about to open the door when he heard voices from the inside. It was nothing out of the ordinary to hear people talking inside because he assumed that Kame, Koki, Tatsuya and Yuichi were still in there. But what made him stop, was that the exchange sounded really dubious.

Junno stood outside the door and tried to be discreet about eavesdropping.

“Put this on for me.”

“Now?”

“Yes. If not? Tomorrow? Hurry up, we don’t have much time.”

There was a sound of plastic ripping.

“Where?”

“Here!”

“No, it’s not nice there! How about here?”

“No! I want it there.”

“But I don’t like it.”

“I don’t care. I want it here.”

“No, I prefer it like this-”

The conversation was suddenly halted as Junno heard a loud thump. He tried to listen more closely, when he almost died of shock when someone suddenly put a hand on his shoulder. He spun around to see Koki.

Junno immediately put his fingers to his lips and stopped Koki before he spoke.

Koki had a questioning look, and Junno pointed to the door with raised brows. So Koki stood beside Junno, and listened too.

“I hate your stupid outfit. It’s such a bother.”

“Oh look, I’ve got it.”

“What? No! I can’t go out like this. Take it off!”

“No, I’m not taking it off.”

“Take it off now!”

“No.”

“Alright fine, I’ll take it off myself. Go away.”

Junno and Koki exchanged glances-whatever it was that was going on inside definitely sounded interesting.

“Okay, how about this?”

“Mm. Yeah, I like it.”

“Yeah? You do? I like it too.”

“Come on, you-”

They heard another thump, then followed by a string of curses.

“I really hate your outfit. It’s so… difficult.”

“Me too. But as long as we can…”

Junno and Koki were so engrossed in eavesdropping that they didn’t spot Kame. And it was too late when they did because Kame opened the door. Junno and Koki’s arms were frozen in the same position, reaching out to stop Kame.

Kame halted in his tracks in the doorway, noticing Junno and Koki had their arms reaching out to him.

“What?” Kame asked.

Junno and Koki dropped their arms.

“Er, nothing, just stretching,” Junno said.

Kame made a face then walked into the dressing room.

Junno and Koki poked their heads in, and all they saw was Yuichi adjusting Tatsuya’s hair.

WHAT REALLY HAPPENED

Tatsuya sat in the swivel chair and looked at himself in the mirror. He raised his hands and shook the long dangly things from his sleeve around. He turned to Yuichi and pouted.

“I don’t like these long things.”

Yuichi looked at his own outfit. “Me neither.”

Then Tatsuya got out of his chair and went to rummage around in a random bag. He pulled out something shiny, and walked back to Yuichi. Yuichi looked up at him when he tapped his shoulder. Tatsuya put a thin packet into his hands.

“Put this on for me.”

Yuichi continued adjusting his hair in the mirror for a moment before looking at the packet Tatsuya pressed into his hand. “Now?”

Tatsuya made a face at him. “Yes. If not? Tomorrow? Hurry up, we don’t have much time,” he pointed at the clock. Yuichi’s eyes followed the direction his fingers were pointing to. They were due to be on stage for their performance in fifteen minutes.

Yuichi looked at the thing Tatsuya gave him. It was a shiny butterfly sticker. Yuichi took the sticker out of its plastic covering. “Where?”

Tatsuya sat in his swivel chair and spun to face Yuichi. He leaned forward to Yuichi, and pointed to his cheek. “Here!”

Yuichi frowned. “No, it’s not nice there! How about here?”

“No! I want it there.” Tatsuya protested.

“But I don’t like it.” Yuichi insisted, then sat back in his chair.

Tatsuya stood up and leaned closer and peered at Yuichi with big puppy eyes through his fringe, “I don’t care. I want it here.”

Yuichi stood up too, and peeled the sticker off its backing, ready to stick it on Tatsuya’s face. “No, I prefer it like this-”

Yuichi didn’t get a chance to finish his sentence because his foot got caught in one of those long things dangling from Tatsuya’s outfit, and he lost his balance, falling onto the younger man.

They remained in that position, with Yuichi crouching over Tatsuya, for a while.

“I hate your stupid outfit. It’s such a bother,” Tatsuya grumbled.

Then suddenly Yuichi had a triumphant look. He pointed to a spot on Tatsuya’s cheek. “Oh look, I’ve got it.”

Tatsuya’s hand flew to his face immediately and he attempted to figure out where exactly Yuichi had stuck the butterfly. He gave an unhappy look. “What? No! I can’t go out like this. Take it off!”

Yuichi shook his head indignantly. “No, I’m not taking it off.”

“Take it off now!” Tatsuya said, glaring at Yuichi while still being pinned down to the floor.

“No.” Yuichi did not budge from his position.

Tatsuya glowered at him. “Alright fine, I’ll take it off myself. Go away.” He attempted to push Yuichi off so he could go to the mirror.

Yuichi still refused to move, so Tatsuya just got up and ignored the fact that Yuichi fell sideways and was looking all hurt.

Tatsuya looked at his face in the mirror and peeled off the butterfly sticker carefully, then positioned it at the corner of his right eye and stuck it on. He turned and looked at Yuichi, who had gotten up and was dusting his hands. “Okay, how about this?”

Yuichi nodded. “Mm. Yeah, I like it.”

“Yeah? You do? I like it too,” Tatsuya said, fluttering his eyelashes at Yuichi as he admired the shiny butterfly that he knew made him look extra flattering.

Yuichi tried to resist that look for a moment, then gave up. “Come on, you-”

He couldn’t finish his sentence again because he somehow got his foot tangled in those long dangly things again, and this time he brought Tatsuya down with him as he fell. He lay sprawled out on the floor with Tatsuya on his knees next to him. Tatsuya spouted a string of curses as he fell.

“I really hate your outfit. It’s so… difficult,” Tatsuya said as he pulled Yuichi so he was sitting upright.

“Me too. But as long as we can…” Yuichi cupped his hand around Tatsuya’s neck and was just closing the distance between them when the door burst open.

Both of them sprang apart at the loud sound, and their eyes instantly fixed on the doorway. Kame was standing right in the middle, but he was looking outside.

Yuichi hastily stood up and gave Tatsuya a hand as well. Then he pretended to be adjusting Tatsuya’s fringe as Tatsuya straightened out the creases in his outfit.

“Later, then,” Yuichi mumbled, so only Tatsuya heard.

+++

During their performance, Tatsuya kept smiling and it made Yuichi want to smile too but he managed not to. After the first chorus, the choreography had a part where they faced each other for a few moments before turning away, and Tatsuya took that chance to wink at Yuichi as he was back-facing the camera and the audience. The butterfly sparkled as he did, and it took all of Yuichi’s resolve to not stare at Tatsuya and smile. He’d get him later for tempting him like that.
