N Recent Things
(1) Yesterday, dozens of people from all over the US, who'd been working furiously for weeks/months/years, converged on a conference room to be told - sorry, guys, not good enough. But if you work really hard until next Tuesday... there's a teeny-tiny chance we'll make the cut. Yuh. One of the things that might be a decider is, fortunately/unfortunately, a component known locally as "Helen-in-a-box". So this week is about making it less, well, me-in-a-box. There are three other projects I'm supposed to be working on. Oh, and as long as it's dangerous to walk home - until I can be sure that none of G's mile-long route from school is in the street due to unappeasable sidewalks - I'm leaving work at 1:45 to be a mommy.
(2) I'd been nervous that a team member from a different company would be annoyed because I'd broken her processing chain and stuck Teh Algorithm in the middle, but she was pleased and said we could get a paper out of it. So that's nice.
(3) Liberty Mutual paid a generous market-value of the totaled minivan to the bank yesterday, thus ending the game of chicken I'd been playing on a positive note - I hadn't wanted to make a payment because anything paid would reduce the gap insurance payout. Now we have a few weeks to satisfy the gap insurer - I think C is on this. C, you on this? I've got to say, Liberty Mutual has been nothing but wonderful for this an all the other accidents I've ever had (I get rear-ended every couple of years).
(4) I've had headaches in advance of every snowstorm... head is hurting now, but the forecast says, nothing until Monday. Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday all have snowflake symbols... okay, I have to look... WHDH says an inch or two, no biggie...
