ALL STAR SUPERMAN #6 $2.99 Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely, Superman. I am still re reading the adorable yet insanely quirky Jimmy Olsen story from #4. Each of these issues is a little Gem full of cockeyed views and odd insights. Quitley's art is just as creative and insighful and is a pleasure t look at. They really are a great partnerdhip. Last issue we had a look into the psyche of Lex Luthor. This week looks to be sad as Clark returns to Smallville to mourn Pa Kent. Luckily Mr. Mxyzptlk will be making an appearance and should lighten the mood a little. With the lightness and good will of the whole series I don't think it will take a brooding turn.

MANHUNTER #27 $2.99I haven't picked this book up in ages. We read it regularly for a while and I can't remember why we let it slide, but with all the intense campaigning going on and Manhunter's appearance in Bird's of Prey I think it is time to give it another chance. Oh and the book takes place in Los Angeles so it may be fun to see some super heroics going down in our stomping grounds. That and the big Ted Kord/Blue Beetle cover sealed the deal.

NIGHTWING #128 $2.99No clue why I haven't dropped this book yet. For all the respect I have for Wolfman I am isanely bored. If I wanted Detective Comics I would buy it. I want a character driven story, not just action and mystery. I thought Devin Grayson was too much in the other direction with almost exploitative character developement, but I think Nightwing should have a middle ground. Batman is cold and doesn't let people in. It works well for him because the stories can center around how everyone else reacts to him. Nightwing is the light side of the equation. He excells in groups and is a natural leader where Bruce is more interesting alone. Give Nightwing an interesting ensemble. Well I suppose I will give it a few more months. Wolfman knows Nightwing, baybe he will turn it around.

NEWUNIVERSAL #2 $2.99The only Marvel title this week. Boy how things have changed. It is more of a Tom book than mine. The first issue was interesting if a little disturbing. Not having been too familiar with the old New Universe can be both good as everything is new for me and bad as I wont catch any nifty twists on the old stories or funny inside jokes. My only previous exposure is from the Exiles New Universe arc and that was probably rather messed up.

SUPERGIRL AND THE LEGION OF THE SUPER-HEROES #25 (again) $2.99Hopefully Diamond wont fail me again this week. I quelled my anger by getting by hand on some scans, which were amazing! This book is getting better and better. Waid is amazingly subtle weaving tiny little plot points together. A throw away line or a bit of detail in the back of a panel that seems haphazard continually turns out to be a clue to a major plotpoint later on. Its amazing craftsmanship and kitsons are is amazingly consistant which ads to the tangibility of the world and the identities of the characters. To ice the whole cake we have the amazing dialog and incredibly entertaining interplay between the characters. If you haven't read this yet go out and pick up
LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES VOL. 1: TEENAGE REVOLUTION You wont regret it.
