Ode to the Livejournal? (and friends) :-)

So, I was sitting around doing mindless nothings again, when something suddenly occured to me. What is the point of an online journal, or blog, or whatever you want to call it? I mean, obviously, we create them to share our thoughts and feelings and whatnot...but why do we read everyone else's? I don't know about other people, but I have a whole folder of bookmarked livejournals, which I read almost every day. Most of the journals are from people who I don't talk to often, or barely at all in some cases. I guess it is nice to hear how they're doing, and what's on everyone's mind, even if it is not direct communication.
Though that fact strikes me as being impersonal...almost like we spy on our friends. We can see what they're thinking and saying, but they don't know we're there to read it necessarily. I guess it's a bit of laziness on everyone's part...not enough time to sit around and IM or call or visit people all the time, so we scan their LJ's and update our own every once in a while.
I also imagine that we look for ourselves in other journals. I know I do...and I feel pretty special, even if someone merely mentions my name, hehe. Everyone likes to know that they're being thought of, even a little. I guess we should be thankful for having such an outlet for communication, in that case. Even if it is one-way most of the time.

Friends are people who we can never completely let go of, though time and life and distance separate us. True friends will never be gone from our thoughts, even if we think we want them to be.* We keep returning to them, and for good reason...they support us, make us smile, and give us precious memories. So (and I know, I've said it before)...thanks to all my friends for always being there for me. You know who you are. :) And I'm sorry if the livejournal has been my only communication with you lately...I promise I'll fix that.

Ok, well...now that I've been all gushy about friends...it's time for bed. Goodnight, everyone. :)

*(Note: Some people are not true friends...)
