Over the weekend, three different people asked me if people in Britain celebrated Thanksgiving. Actually, only one person actually asked; the other two just assumed that it was. One person told me that, while she knew some countries didn't celebrate Christmas, she thought that Thanksgiving was truly global.
I've said before that American history is more Myth than History, but it seems to me that even
a cursory familiarity with that myth would indicate that Thanksgiving has no relevance outside of America.
Still, it's not as bad as the time I was asked if the British celebrated the 4th of July. Or if there were trees in England...
