When she finally gets to the hospital, she comes to her in the waiting room.
“Tina?”
“Mrs. Abrams. Hi, I -“
Mrs. Abrams gives her a pitying look.
“Is he - did the surgery -“
“They tried.”
“Oh, God.” She collapses in front of all the waiting and minorly injured.
“It’s what he wanted, Tina. He wanted to give it a shot.”
Tina remembered Artie’s ridiculous 50 Cent imitation, how he told her he wanted to “die trying.”
“I’m sorry you were too late. He was in surgery when--.” Artie’s mother chokes up, leaving Tina more alone than ever before.
