Ryan:
Monday, 4:30pm
Ryan paced the floor of the ER waiting room for about the thousandth time. He was scared and nervous and his heart was going about a mile a minute.
"Ryan!"
Ryan looked up and saw Greg, Jeff, Drew and Wayne headed his way.
"Thanks for coming guys." he said and hugged all of them.
"Of course! What happened? Is Colin gonna be okay?" Drew asked and frowned in concern.
"I... I don't know... They took him back to run some tests a couple hours ago. No one has told me anything yet..." Ryan plopped down into a chair and hung his head in his hands.
"So he just started convulsing? Just out of the blue?" Wayne asked and rubbed his back soothingly.
"He wasn't feeling well at work, he was throwing up and said he felt dizzy," Greg piped in, "But... God I didn't think it would get this bad!"
"Mr. Stiles?"
Ryan stood up and faced the doctor.
"Yes, that's me. How's Colin? Is he going to be alright? What happened?"
"Well, we ran some tests and it seems he has arsenic poisoning."
"Arsenic... Oh God..." Ryan fell back into the seat and just stared off.
Drew jumped in and kept talking to the doctor, "Arsenic poisoning? Isn't that deadly?"
The doctor nodded, "It can be, but it seems like Mr. Mochrie didn't consume enough for it to kill him. He is, however, in a coma. There's no telling how long he'll be unconscious. Could be days, weeks, or even months."
"Can... can I go see him?" Ryan said quietly and looked up at the doctor with tears in his eyes.
"Yes, but only a couple of you at a time."
Ryan and Greg walked together down the hallway to Colin's room. When they got there, Ryan rushed to Colin's side and held his hand.
"Oh Col... I don't know if you can hear me, but I love you so much. Please pull through this... I need you..." He kissed Colin's hand and sank down into a chair beside his bed.
"What kind of sick son of a bitch would do this to him?" Greg asked quietly.
"I... I don't know... But I found a note."
"A note?" Greg moved closer to Ryan and stood behind him.
"Yeah... It said If I can't have you, no one can."
Greg stiffened and his eyes narrowed in anger, "That BITCH! I KNEW that god damn fridge should've had a lock on it!" he spat.
"What? Who is it Greg?"
"Kathy! Kathy did this to him!"
Ryan quickly inhaled as realization washed over him.
Of course! She's been coming onto Col for years! She must have snapped when she found out we were together!
"We have to tell the police." Greg said and headed out the door.
Ryan:
Monday, 11:00pm
Ryan stayed by Colin's bedside and the other guys came in and out to visit him. The police put out a warrant for Kathy's arrest, but she wasn't at home or at the office. They searched her desk and found Arsenic in her drawer.
Ryan was just drifting off in the corner when he heard footsteps coming into the room. The lights were turned out so he couldn't see who it was but he instantly recognized the voice when the person spoke.
"Oh... My sweet Colin... I'm so sorry I had to do this to you..."
Ryan quickly stood up and bolted over towards the bed.
"Kathy, get away from him!"
"You!" Kathy responded with venom in her voice and her eyes grew dark with anger. "You took him away from me! You made me do this!"
She pulled a knife out of her purse and started to come at Ryan. Ryan backed towards the back wall, knocking over the table and bed pan, making a loud clatter.
"You can't take him from me! He was mine first!"
Colin:
Monday, 11:05pm
The first thing Colin heard when he awoke was a loud clatter and when he opened his eyes enough to adjust to the dim lighting, he saw Kathy wielding a knife and going after Ryan.
"You can't take him from me! He was mine first!"
Without hesitating, he quietly jumped out of bed and grabbed the bed pan off the floor. He ran towards Kathy and hit her over the head with it as hard as he could, knocking her out.
"Colin?! Oh my God! Thank goodness you're alive!" Ryan rushed and hugged Colin as tightly as he could.
Colin hugged him back just as tightly, inhaling Ryan's scent.
"I love you Ryan..."
"I love you too, Col... God, how I love you!"
Epilogue:
It had been 10 months since Kathy poisoned Colin and she was sent to jail for attempted murder. Colin and Ryan had been together for a year now and Ryan had a very special evening planned.
"Ry, this is ridiculous, do I really have to wear this blindfold? I couldn't even enjoy the limo ride over here!" Colin sighed.
Ryan chuckled, "Yes, it is necessary. Now hush, we're almost there."
He guided him towards the door and led him inside.
"Okay, now you can take it off."
Colin removed the blindfold and gasped.
"Oh Ryan..."
There he stood in the middle of the restaurant where they first met. The room was completely empty except for one table in the middle of the dining room with a votive candle and a single red rose in a vase.
"Happy Anniversary sweetheart." Ryan whispered in his ear.
"Oh baby... I'm... I'm speechless!" Colin hugged Ryan tightly and leaned back for a tender, loving kiss.
Ryan escorted Colin to the table and they indulged in the single greatest meal that either of them had ever had. From the champagne, right down to the chocolate covered strawberries, everything was perfect.
"That was delicious." Colin said and wiped his mouth.
"Mmm... but this night's not over yet." Ryan said as he stood.
He smiled and offered Colin his hand. They walked to the door and Ryan stopped.
"What?" Colin asked and cocked his head to the side.
"Put the blindfold back on."
"But Ryan!"
"Please?" Ryan pleaded and gave his best puppy eyed look.
Colin raised an eyebrow, "I do that so much better than you, ya know..."
"I know... Just put it on... For me?" Ryan batted his eyelashes.
Colin sighed and rolled his eyes, "Oh alright..."
When the limo stopped, Ryan guided Colin through a grassy patch and then stopped.
"Okay, take it off now."
Colin slowly removed the blindfold and looked out onto the city. They were at the Hollywood Hills, next to the Hollywood sign.
Suddenly, 'Time After Time' came through the limo's speakers and Ryan came around and held his hand out to Colin.
"May I have this dance?" He asked and grinned.
"You remembered..." Colin said as he took his hand.
They slow danced together and as Cyndi Lauper sang out the last few notes of the song, Ryan pulled away and looked deep into Colin's eyes.
"Colin, I need to tell you something."
"Okay..."
Ryan cleared his throat and let out a shaky breath.
"Uh... Okay..."
He cleared his throat and began...
"I've been waiting my whole life for someone honest and pure-hearted that sees me as me and accepts me for who I am. I always felt that if I lived that way, one day that person would find me...
When we met, we were worlds apart, but from the first time we spoke, we were drawn to each other.
We got to know each other, spending many a late night on the phone and though I didn't want to admit it to myself, I wanted to be with you even then.
I honestly believe you are the chosen one for me. I've never felt this way before. I get butterflies each time you say 'I love you'.
We've loved each other for a year now, but I want more... I want to love you a lifetime. I don't want to take the chance of ever letting you go. I'm in love with you and I fall for you again every single day."
Ryan pulled a ring box from his pocket and got down on one knee.
"Colin Andrew Mochrie... Will you marry me?"
Tears filled Colin's eyes and he gasped. "Oh Ryan! Yes! Yes, of course I'll marry you!"
Ryan grinned and pulled Colin into a passionate kiss. They both had been through a lot together and they both knew that things wouldn't be easy, but they had each other and they knew they could count on each other. Time after time...
