Author: Lochnessbunny (Nessie)
Title: Time After Time, Part 1/11
Pairing: Eventually, Ryan/Colin
Rating: PG-13 for now, just for some foul language
Summary: AU... A simple blind date turns into something more for Colin
Disclaimer: Don't own anything but the story... if you sue me all you'll get is a collection of tiger stuffies... :-)

Author's Note: This story was inspired by the song "Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper. I used a different style than normal for this story by
listing times when the events happen and I sometimes go back and forth between what Colin's going through and what Ryan's going through. I tried to make it as simple to read as possible so just let me know if you see anything that needs to be changed! I love comments so feel free to share the love!!! ^_^

Colin:
Sunday, 6:30pm

Colin stared at himself in the mirror and straightened his tie for about the hundredth time. He'd never been this nervous about a date before. Of course, he'd never been on a blind date in his life and the fact that Greg had set it up didn't exactly help matters. Even though Greg had reassured him that this guy was perfect for him, it still didn't seem to sink in.

Colin glanced at his watch, it was time to go. He grabbed his car keys from the dresser and headed out the door.

Colin:

Sunday, 6:55pm

When he got to the restaurant he was seated immediately. His date wasn't due for another five minutes so he sat nervously at the table, one hand clutched around his water glass and the other drumming a pattern on the dark red tablecloth.

He let his eyes wander around the room while he waited, taking in the atmosphere. There was light classical music playing and a votive candle on every table gave the room a romantic glow. When his eyes settled on the front door he saw a tall, slim man walk in and felt his heart jump.

Could this be him? God, I hope it is.

As the man walked over he held his breath and drank in the sight before him. He was slender but not too thin, his curly hair a beautiful
blondish brown. Colin thought he was the most beautiful man he had ever seen. As he got closer to the table, Colin looked into his eyes for the first time and felt himself become overwhelmed with an instant connection that he thought only existed in books he had read.

What gorgeous green eyes!

When the man smiled at him, Colin felt his heart melt. He returned the smile and started to stand but froze when the man suddenly changed direction and headed towards another table.

It's not him... Dammit! Why couldn't it have been him?!

Sighing, Colin looked back at the door and waited for his real date to arrive.

Colin:
Sunday, 7:45pm

Colin couldn't believe it. Not only was the gorgeous, green eyed stranger not his date, but his intended date had not shown up yet.

Maybe he took one look at me through the window and changed his mind.

He heaved another sigh and rose to go sit at the bar. He flagged down the bartender and ordered a scotch.

Might as well make the most of things.

"Is this seat taken?"
Colin jerked his head up at the sudden voice and was rendered momentarily speechless when he saw who it was. There was the green eyed stranger, smiling warmly at him. Realizing how foolish he must look just gaping at him, Colin shook his head and answered.

"No, help yourself."

"Thanks," he said and pulled the stool out. "Let me guess, date didn't show?"

"That obvious, eh?" Colin replied and gave him a half smile. The man chuckled deeply and nodded.

"I've had that look many times before. I've been stood up so many times I stopped counting."

"Did your date stand you up tonight, too?" Colin asked and took another swig of his scotch.

"Nah, she just turned out to be another air headed bimbo so I ditched her." He said and waved the bartender over.

Damn, he's straight... this night just keeps getting worse.

"My name's Ryan, by the way," the man said after ordering a beer and extended his large hand out to him.

"I'm Colin, nice to meet you Ryan," Colin said and smiled at him, taking his hand. After the handshake lasted a little longer than necessary, Ryan quickly removed his hand and scratched the back of his head.

"So, uh... you live around here?" he asked and smiled nervously.

"Yeah, just about twenty minutes from here," Colin replied and gestured for the bartender to bring him another scotch, "You?"

"Moved here about two months ago, just got settled," Ryan said and took a giant gulp of his beer. "Been trying like Hell to find a decent girl, so far, nothing. They're all faker than a million dollar bill and dumb as shit."

Colin couldn't help but laugh, he knew all too well how females were here, it was exactly the reason he had switched to men. He wasn't sure he should divulge that information to Ryan just yet, afraid of running him off. "I know what you mean," he said and Ryan smiled at him.

Colin:
Sunday, 10:45pm

They both sat at the bar drinking and laughing for three hours, just getting to know each other. Colin learned that Ryan was originally from North Carolina and worked as a stock broker out of his condo. He had been looking for a change of scenery and moved to LA in search of something more.

Colin shared that he was from Canada originally, but moved to LA with his family when he was very young. He went to college to become a lawyer and became a partner in a well known law firm about 10 years ago.

They also found they had quite a bit in common. They both shared the same taste in music and had a mutual interest in the arts. When the bartender started to close up they walked together to the front door.

"Well, it was nice meeting you Colin, you definitely made this night worthwhile," Ryan said and smiled at him.

"It was lovely meeting you too, Ry" Colin replied and gave him an equally warm grin in return.

Ryan chuckled at the shortening of his name, "Ry, huh? I suppose I should call you Col then?"

Colin shrugged, "If you want, I don't mind. Speaking of calling..." Colin paused and pulled his business card out of his wallet, "You should give me a call sometime, I'd love to do this again."

Ryan took it and smiled, "Yeah, me too." He pulled out his own business card and handed  it to Colin. "Talk to you soon?" Ryan asked.

"Yeah," Colin said and looked deeply into his eyes. He suddenly found himself being pulled into a tight hug and he swore he felt Ryan's lips lightly touch his cheek, making his heart skip a beat.

Ryan slowly let go of Colin and turned, walking away into the night. Colin was left standing there speechless, staring after Ryan's retreating form and wondering what had just happened.
