Sunset
Greg stood at the window of the large California home he shared with Jeff and smiled. The evening was absolutely perfect. The sky was filled with puffy, cotton-ball clouds, the sun was shining brightly, and the air was unusually cool. This was it. The opportunity he'd been looking for. Greg just hoped that he would be able to find the right words. Everything was riding on what he said and how he said it. For the first time in his life, Greg was nervous about screwing up, but he had every right to be. Greg was about to take the biggest chance of his life.
The sun began to set, causing the baby blue sky to erupt into a majestic swirl of brilliant golds, fiery reds, cheerful yellows, and blazing oranges. The cotton-ball clouds became the perfect canvas for the sky's palette of color, mixing them into a beautiful painting worthy of the finest galleries. it was an ideal romantic backdrop for Greg's equally romantic plan.
"Jeff?" he asked, unable to stop smiling.
"Yeah?"
"Come outside with me."
"Why?"
"Just trust me. Please?"
Jeff knew how much Greg wanted this, so he soon joined his lover on their balcony, and his eyes lit up with a delicious sense of wonder as soon as he saw the sunset. He had never seen uch a beautiful sight in all of his life...
"Jeff?"
"Yes?" The beauty got to him. He was never this formal.
Greg breathed deeply and steadied his nerves. When he spoke, it was hesitant at first, but he grew more confident as he went on. He knew he was doing the right thing.
"I...I never thought I'd find someone like you. You showed me that it is possible to love life and to love someone else. You were the light during my darkest hour. You showed me love, trust, and companionship. I want that light to shine forever. I want to be with you forever," Greg said, not looking away from his one true love.
Jeff, awed by this show of deep sincerity, said, "What are you trying to say..."
Greg got down on one knee, pulled a small black box out of his pocket, opened it to reveal a glimmering diamond ring, and said, "Jeff, would you do me the immense honor of becoming my husband?"
Jeff looked from the ring to Greg and felt his heart soar into the wide open sky above him. He knew Greg loved him, but he had no idea that he loved him this deeply. This passionately. If this wasn't perfection, then what was? Greg waited on bated breath for a response.
"Yes...yes, I will," Jeff breathed.
Greg slid the subtly gorgeous ring onto Jeff's finger, stood up, and wrapped his soon-to-be husband into a lovingly passionate kiss. As the sun set in the sky, their lips met over and over, and both of them poured every ounce of emotion they felt into the kiss. It was one of those that needed to last forever, and neither Greg nor Jeff had any intention of stopping it. They stayed on that balcony in a loving embrace, not moving until the sun was fully down and the stars were beginning to twinkle like diamonds. The day may have been over, but a new dawn in Greg and Jeff's lives had just begun.
