I quite liked the excitement of not knowing who I was picking/what I'd be getting. I was really lucky to get a great mixed treat bag!
Also, what did we think of the complete lack of control over who and what we got this time around? Should we do it again this way next year or go back to knowing who and what we're getting? Or something in between?
I kind of liked it better this way, I think. Not knowing who was crafting for you or what kind of treat you were getting gave it an extra element of suspense. Then on the reverse side, my gifts were clearly done taking into account what I like, which made it something of a challenge for the writers. When we did it the other way, the people who chose me knowing I was writing fic had a pretty good idea of what they were going to get and I knew that's what they were looking for. This way you could be chosen by someone who likes a pairing you've never tried, and that's a challenge for the author or artist. Finally, the blind choosing eliminated hurt feelings if someone didn't get chosen right away. Just my two cents :)
I didn't play last year, but I am going to vote for 'like it a lot this way' too. I enjoyed the challenge of thinking of what the person I would write for would want. Plus, the blind choosing makes it a lot more fair.

Sungreen- Great that we ended up picking each other! The premise was awesome, as soon as I read the first couple of lines I said out loud: "Oh my god, she wrote a handjob-on-a-plane story!!!" with lots of squee (my boyfriend thought it was hilarious). I love all the parallels between the actual sexy times and the surroundings of the plane taking off. Thank you! *kiss*
Hee! Well, I've been wanting to write that piece for you since you beta'd Nocturne and suggested that the brief reference to hand jobs on a plane would make a good longer story :) Very glad you liked it, and I LOVED my gift as well. Thank you!! <3
