Josie would remember, far more often than she would like, certain feelings she had developed. She had to let them go. The others told her repeatedly that happily married men did not suddenly abandon everything they had for their co-stars.
Ryan had tried his best to forget Josie. They wrapped up the final series; he returned to the States and they went their separate ways. Naturally, Josie kept in touch with Colin and Greg. Ryan tried to pretend it didn't hurt.

Josie had her mobile in one hand and a cigarette in the other. She'd been staring at Ryan's number on her phone for nearly an hour. Every time her thumb bent down to press send, she'd drop the phone in her lap and take another drag.
Overseas, Ryan watched the sleeping form of his wife. He loved her more than life itself. But sometimes he couldn't help but wonder... He left his wife sleeping peacefully in favour of the cool night on the back porch. He settled himself into a chair.
He dialled the number and put it to his ear before he could change his mind.
Josie answered on the first ring. She couldn't disguise the fact that she'd been holding her phone, waiting for a call.
“Ryan,” Josie breaths into the phone, as though her breath could bring the man to her.
“Josie,” Ryan says.
After a long silence, “I miss you, Jos.”
“I miss you too,” Josie said. Ryan could hear the tears in her voice.
Ryan never forgot to call her on the anniversary of their last kiss.
Josie pressed the end button on her phone, reminding herself yet again why she and Ryan agreed it had to be this way. They tried to forget.
But it didn't sew the broken threads of Josie's heart back together.
