Winter:

Mike McShane hefted his large frame away from the, now healthily roaring, fire; beads of sweat littered his forehead and he absently wiped at them with the sleeve of his shirt.

"You got it going?" Drew smiled, wandering out of the kitchen, two mugfuls of hot chocolate in his hands.

"Finally!" Mike chuckled, taking his drink with a whispered "thank you".

Drew took a moment to study the man's smiling face, before settling down onto the rug.

"You know" he started, leaning over to plant a promising kiss on his lover's lips, "this is probably the best idea we've ever had."

Mike smiled softly, wrapping arms around Drew's chest as the smaller man snuggled up against him. "You work too hard."

"You worry too much" Drew sighed, closing his eyes and tipping his head back to lean more thoroughly on Mike's shoulder.

"Only because I love you" his lover murmured, Mike's deep baritone a gentle reminder of home.

Drew sat himself upright, turning his upper body to regard the large man intently.

"What do you think gets me through the day?" he grinned, becoming instantly lost when Mike's beautiful, smiling face broke into a blush.

"Maybe Monday will forget to come" Mike sighed, as Drew leaned in for a more passionate kiss.

That would be nice.

Spring:

"Do you think we should start a fire?" Sandi asked, frowning at the empty grate.

"Is it cold enough?"

Sandi glanced over to the doorway as Josie kicked the large oak door shut behind her and deposited a box full of groceries onto the table.

"Probably not" Sandi reasoned, "It just looks so forlorn, sitting there all empty."

Josie moved to stand behind the shorter woman, laying her hands on Sandi's shoulders and placing a brief kiss to the top of her lover's head. "I have an idea" she grinned, moving back to the box.

Pulling out a small packet of white candles, she handed two to Sandi and they set about lighting them, melting the base of each one in order to secure them onto the grate.

The sky was slowly giving way to the approaching evening darkness and the soft glow of the candles welcomed it, adding a warming glow to the previously empty atmosphere.

"There now" Josie smiled.

Sandi allowed herself to enjoy the moment, the beginning of a weekend away they both desperately needed. Time was precious, time together even more so.

"Did you remember to bring crockery?" she asked, wandering through to the kitchen.

"Nope. I thought I'd eat my dinner off of you" Josie grinned widely.

"Not very practical if I'm making soup."

"You have a belly button don't you?"

"For the sake of my sanity, I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that."

Summer:

"Oh this is gorgeous" Jeff enthused, his wide eyes taking in the rustic beauty of the weather-beaten cabin.

Greg chuckled beside him, hefting their suitcase out of the trunk of his car. The early afternoon sun was high and beating mercilessly down on them.

"Wait til you see the inside" the older man smiled, moving past his younger lover.

Jeff watched as Greg walked away from him, his eyes glued to the man's white t-shirt, clinging to his sweat-slicked body. 'The cabin just paled into insignificance' he thought.

The cool, if slightly musty, air was a welcome relief as Greg stepped inside. Dropping the suitcase and wiping at his brow, he moved to the large window, opening the curtains to light up the room.

"The couch looks comfy" Jeff grinned, hugging his lover from behind and resting his chin on Greg's shoulder.

"I thought you wanted to spend a weekend of hiking and swimming and, I quote, 'basking in the clean, country air'?" Greg questioned, covering Jeff's clasped hands with his own.

"I did. But that was before I caught sight of your butt in those jeans" Jeff sighed softly, gently mouthing Greg's neck.

"You only love me for my ass" Greg murmured, tilting his head slightly to grant Jeff better access.

"Not true. I also love you for your dick."

"You old romantic."

Autumn/Fall:

"He's not gonna come" Colin mumbled to himself, placing another log on the fire.

The past few months had been a strain on him. He and Deb had finally admitted defeat and started divorce proceedings, work (although he was thankful for the financial rewards) had been piling up and it was all he could do to keep his energy going. Through it all, he'd tried to get hold of Ryan, missing his friend desperately and needing the comfort that talking to him always brought.

Of course, Ryan had been his usual 'Scarlet Pimpernel' self and proved impossible to contact.

Out of sheer desperation, Colin had accepted an invitation to a birthday party being held for Dan Patterson, he knew that all the people who worked on Whose Line had been invited and hoped to see Ryan there.

Ryan had sent his agent in his place, accompanied by an apologetic note, siting work schedules and family needs as an excuse.

It had been lovely to catch up with everyone, but Colin just could not bring himself to enjoy the atmosphere. Instead he had become lost in reminiscing, craving the simplicity of the old days, when he and Ryan were virtually a double act.

One particular remembered conversation preoccupied most of his attention. They were both young, having just started out on Second City. During one of their many evening walks, Ryan had taken his hand and announced "one day, we'll be rich enough to say 'fuck you' to everyone and we'll buy a cabin in the woods and settle down together. Spend our days fishing and swimming and..."

Ryan had turned to look at him then, his emerald eyes dark, full of regret and promise. They both knew that a life of normality beckoned if they were to have any life at all.

That night they shared their first and last kiss, briefly losing themselves in the warmth of each other, staving off the chill of the night.

'One last try' Colin had thought at the party. He'd badgered Dan into letting him use his office, stealing pen and paper to simply write ' we're rich enough to say it'. He'd followed that with a date and the address of a cabin he frequently rented out. He usually went there to write, needing the calm and solitude.

Placing the note into an envelope, Colin had sealed it and given it to Ryan's agent, extracting a promise that it would be delivered the next day.

That was a week ago and Colin had been at the cabin for two days already. Two days past the date he had arranged.

"You're a damn fool Mochrie" he sighed, staring into the flames and absently sipping on his mug of coffee. "Even if he did remember, why the hell should he bother? It was a pipe dream created for our youth. That's where it should stay."

The sound of a car engine caught his attention and he stood, moving to the large window.

His heart raced as he recognised the tall frame of the person walking up to the cabin door and he rushed to open it, startling his visitor.

"I fired my agent" Ryan smiled.

"You...?"

"I got your message this morning. It'd been sitting in the idiot's pocket for a fucking week."

Colin moved aside, still a little dumbstruck at the shock of seeing his friend after he'd resigned himself to the opposite.

"I didn't think you were coming" he said softly, closing the door.

"I'm sorry" Ryan sighed. "Believe me, I would have been here sooner if I'd known.

"But you're here now" Colin smiled, moving into the open arms of the taller man.

"I'm here now" Ryan whispered, wrapping himself around Colin and sinking into a much needed and seriously overdue kiss.
