The Baldree family had three sons and a daughter. Linda had a bedroom in the house next to her parents. Kelly, Steven, and Michael lived in the garage. Kelly was "simple." That's a nice way of putting it, but he was very nice. Steven, the middle boy, was really not nice at all. The three boys didn't have beds in the garage: they slept on mats on the concrete floor. And there was no heat in the Winter and no cool in the Summer out there. Michael, the youngest, wasn't simple; he was just nervous and emotional. One Halloween he shaved his eyebrows off. Afterward, no one could get them to grow back. Michael didn't want to go to school looking like that. Mr. Baldree was a watermelon farmer. Each Summer, I would ride my bicycle the four miles to his farm and buy a large watermelon. The melon was pretty difficult for me to back back to our place on a bike.
