[Not your normal Omi]

Oct 24, 2010 21:28

It's night, and Omi's sitting on the roof of a building. You might notice that there's something rather... off... about the smallest kitten. The full moon's light doesn't help much, but does his skin look a bit paler to you? And are his eyes just a bit brighter and a more clear blue than you remember ( Read more... )

If Ken was a lesser wolf, he'd be running amok on the streets right now. As it was, the compulsion to run was irresistible--but he could do so without terrifying everyone in the city, and could even do so outside wolf form. If he wanted.

But at the moment, he didn't want. At least until he caught a familiar scent on the wind, the smell of another predator, overlaid with the scent of someone that, as he recalled, shouldn't be anything of the sort. He hadn't missed that much by going off to retake his pack's territory, had he? Surely Ran or Youji would have gotten in touch with him.

Panting slightly from his running across rooftops, Ken padded over to look at Omi questioningly, before his body twisted and stretched, returning to its other shape.

"...Omitchi?"

Omi sensed him before he spoke. He turned, and looked at the other. This was one of his... one of his friends, right? Surely... surely what he was wouldn't matter... Even if he was one of the Dark Beasts they'd vowed to fight.

"K-kenken?" he replied hesitantly, returning the silly nickname.

"...seriously, I go to Hokkaido for one month and you end up getting Turned? I'm never leaving again." He approached fearlessly--trusting completely that Omi wouldn't try anything with him--more concerned that this had happened in the first place than the end. How had Ran let their leader get Turned? Or Youji, for that matter?

"Omi, what happened?"

You smell... a bit different from what he remembers. Omi shook his head, figuring he hadn't taken a bath after messing with some dog at the park.

"My Master gave me a gift."

That set off all kinds of warning bells for Ken. He knew full well that there were a lot of vampires that had that kind of mentality toward their sires--but hearing those words coming out of Omi's mouth was disturbing to say the least. Not to mention the Omi he knew wouldn't have let himself get Turned without a fight--one that he could easily put up, since the kinds of magic he could use were beyond the grasp of most Supernaturals.

"...too much to hope for that Ran lost his mind and sired you, isn't it?"

"Ran?" Omi thought for a moment, as if turning the idea around in his head for a moment. The Ran he knew was not a vampire... Which mean tthat this was not the Ken he knew, either. "Abyssinian did not. He could never hold a candle to the power of my Master."

Ken wouldn't be too sure about that. Ran was an old and powerful vampire, not to mention stubborn as hell. The Abyssinian name wasn't at all familiar either. This was exceedingly strange. The Hidaka pack's new leader huffed softly.

"You're not the same Omi." That much he was fairly certain of at this point. Did the other even know what Ken was?

"And you are not the Ken I know." That much was certain. This man neither smelled nor felt as innocent and naive as the one he'd known.

"Well now that we've established that much." Ken smirked, letting himself fall into the snow near where Omi was sitting, utterly relaxed. He was used to alpine weather, after all--this cold was nothing but familiar. The strange smell of the Omi next to him was, admittedly, a bit unsettling. But even if this one was a predator--so was Ken.

Omi watched him. He would be dangerous to go against, he knew. Because there was no way he didn't know that the boy was dangerous, and for him to be so relaxed would mean that he was powerful enough to at least protect himself from the fledgling vampire.

"Why?" he asked, wondering why he stayed, knowing that they did not truly know each other.

Why? Because it was his job to keep an eye on other Supernaturals like you seem to have become, because even though you weren't the same Omi he still felt a kinship--now beginning to feel more and more like a responsibility to make sure you didn't do anything you were sure to regret later. Or so he thought anyway. Plus the full moon always made him feel giddy--almost drunk.

"Just because."

Omi shrugged. He didn't care if the other was there, provided he didn't interfere with his meal. And he was starting to get rather hungry, too.

But he was going to interfere--that was his job. To make sure humans at large never found out about the existence of Others. To make sure the separation was maintained, a balance kept. He'd left his home twice over for that reason, because he realized now how important it was.

He flopped backwards into the snow--if he were in his wolf form, his tail would be wagging slightly, mouth open in a friendly pant. But as it was, he just looked like a goofy human on his back in a snow drift.

"You look ridiculous, you know," Omi commented, scanning the streets below them. He had to get a meal soon, and he doubted his Master would have anything waiting for him back home.

"Mm." He didn't really care. "It's the moon." Even if he did look ridiculous, he was still fully aware of what was going on around him.

Omi shrugged, then spotted what he'd been waiting for. A woman was struggling against a man in the alley directly below them, as the man tried to remove her clothing. In an instant, Omi was between them, pushing the woman away, and she was smart enough to run.

Then he turned to the man.
