Not many write Takatoris here (or everywhere), so I'm happy you did. I think you got under their skin very well. I liked the Reiji's concern that his son be killed properly. What a good father ;-)! You think of everything. While the second was a classical Masafumi (you do his creepines well) the third did offer a fresh perspective - I never thought of it, but it's very likely Hirofumi looked up to his father (through very rosy glasses).

And the last one made me want to hug Omi so much ...

Thanks! I've only watched up to episode 10 thus far, and while I know that Hirofumi is one of the bad guys, and that he justifiably bites the dust later on, where I am he's looking more like a devoted brother and son than like a homicidal sociopath. I imagine that'll be changing as soon as Netflix sends me my next DVD ;)

These are great! Poor, sweet Omi. And you've reminded me of why I hate Masafumi so much, and why I could never quite bring myself to hate Hirofumi.

Thanks! But....why *do* you hate Masafumi so much? He and his pop strike me as the less potentially conflicted Takatoris when it comes to evil-doing, but I really do think of his research goals and formation of Schreient as being a species of charity. He isn't all bad, just...kind of crazy.

If I'm being honest, I hate him because he creeps me out. Because he uses Schreient as a shield. Because I'm not entirely sure what the story with Tot is.

If I'm pretending those aren't issues to me (and they are, but I know some people who would laugh at me for it, not that I'm saying you would), it's because he transformed innocents into monsters without even a flicker of guilt, convincing himself that his good was their good, without considering personal circumstances. The tendencies of a sociopath, or those of someone on the autistic spectrum who doesn't bother to make the effort to understand others. (Note that I do distinguish between those who can't and those who don't bother, but if he were one of the former then he would not be interacting with others on the levels that he does.)

Oh, dear, no, I would never laugh at anyone for possessing a healthy disgust for using/abusing, pseudo-pedophiliac tendencies. Though I might poke fun at you if you hated him strictly because he's creepy ;)
It's interesting that you compare his behavior to autism--you're right, he's way too highly functioning for that diagnosis to work. If I had to venture a psychiatric diagnosis, I'd pick something like borderline personality disorder, which accomodates his brilliance, high social functioning, and his overwhelming selfishness and disregard for others. And of course, borderline personality is usually incurable.
