If I'm pretending those aren't issues to me (and they are, but I know some people who would laugh at me for it, not that I'm saying you would), it's because he transformed innocents into monsters without even a flicker of guilt, convincing himself that his good was their good, without considering personal circumstances. The tendencies of a sociopath, or those of someone on the autistic spectrum who doesn't bother to make the effort to understand others. (Note that I do distinguish between those who can't and those who don't bother, but if he were one of the former then he would not be interacting with others on the levels that he does.)

It's interesting that you compare his behavior to autism--you're right, he's way too highly functioning for that diagnosis to work. If I had to venture a psychiatric diagnosis, I'd pick something like borderline personality disorder, which accomodates his brilliance, high social functioning, and his overwhelming selfishness and disregard for others. And of course, borderline personality is usually incurable.
