Ran was overjoyed to see her alive and well after so many years. She saw it in his eyes.
He took two steps toward her - hesitated. Aya closed the distance, throwing herself into his embrace.
"Oh, big brother. I was so frightened."
His arms wrapped around her instinctively. An awed whisper brushed her ear.
"I thought I'd lost you forever."
It was really very touching.
Neu even felt a twinge of remorse as she slid the blade from her sleeve and plunged it into Abyssinian's back - but it was only what he deserved. He should never have harmed her beloved Masafumi.

The first time was idle curiosity- the slow drag of a sharp blade over pale skin. It didn't hurt nearly as much as he'd expected - not nearly as much as it should.
The next time (and the next), he sliced deeper, courting the pain - unsure if he was seeking punishment, redemption, or simply release.
Eventually, he stopped needing a reason at all - not his guilt, not his grief - just a perverse satisfaction in warm blood welling up beneath cold steel, leaving a lattice of white scars.
By the time the others noticed, it was much too late.
And God wept.
