L'hopital rule

May 29, 2014 23:41

So there's this rule that says everyone should go to the hospital at least once in their adult life, right?  And since there's also this rule about wisdom teeth supposing to get more potentially problematic as you get older, I just combined both rules and had myself a Memorial Day Weekend Staycation at UPMC Shadyside.  It certainly was an ( Read more... )

Can I bug you for dentist & oral surgeon recommendations? I, too, have to get my wisdom teeth dealt with (and my last dentist was bad for a lot of reasons).

Sure, but with the caveats that i haven't really shopped around at all, and i mostly like my dentist and (current) oral surgeon because they saved me from some acute problems when other dentists or oral surgeons seemed to be ignoring my plights. My dentist is Dr. Schmeler from Shadyside Smiles, and my oral surgeon is Dr. Davies from Pittsburgh Oral Surgery.

Actually, caveat number three is that i haven't even had the wisdom tooth extracted yet, so i have no data on that front. But Dr. Davies has done surgery on me quite successfully, as will be detailed in the fullness of time (i.e., when i get around to posting the rest of the story.. maybe tomorrow?).

wow, those are pretty bad! Maybe it's time i found someone new...

Shadyside Dentistry looks promising: couple good Yelp reviews, and one of Pittsburgh Magazine's top dentists of 2013.

the irony here is the thing she caught that my previous dentist missed was an abscessed tooth that needed a root canal. I guess everyone gets lucky sometimes..?

If you want a dental recommendation from a random stranger, I and my entire family have gone to Dr Paul Gleason in Squirrel Hill (Shady & Forbes) for about 10 years now, and have been very happy. He recommends to Chetlin (on Murray) for ortho stuff and to Eichner in Oakland the one time we had any surgery needed.

FWIW, if it's the same Eichner, he's part of the Pittsburgh Oral Surgery group that my Dr. Davies is part of. They used to have an office in Oakland, but it looks like it moved in December 2012. Now they have offices in Shadyside (on Centre Ave), Monroeville, Mount Lebanon, and Tarentum.

Aha, sounds likely. Our experience was 2 extractions on a pre-teen something like 5 years ago anyways, so pretty out of date. I think we were scheduled with Eichner but ended up with Smiga, but I barely remember most of it.

Dental recommendations from random-strangers-who-know-wjl are welcome & appreciated. :) I'll look into Dr. Gleason -- thank you!
