Review: Waterproof, Cordless Phon

I bought the Uniden 5.8GHz Digital Waterproof Accessory Handset, Model: TWX977. This is an accessory and not a stand alone product. You must already own or buy a compatible base unit.

I wanted a waterproof phone for use in the bathroom, outside, kitchen, etc. Uniden also sells a waterproof 900MHz phone that includes the base station. Many wireless items are 900MHz. All the 900MHz wireless items I have tried, have suffered from static and interference. I am happy with my old Uniden TRU5865 which is a 5.8GHz Digital Spread Spectrum (less static, less interference, harder to intercept calls). The TRU5865 does not work with the TWX977, so I had to buy a new base unit. I bought the Uniden 5.8 GHz Digital Expandable Answering System with Two Extra Handsets & Chargers, Model: TRU9480-3 for $100 USD. The TRU9480-3 is also 5.8GHz Digital Spread Spectrum. I have been using the TRU9480-3 (but not the answering machine) since 2006-Nov-09 and the TWX977 since 2006-Dec-09.

The TWX9777 Handset (but not the charger) is supposed to float. Unfortunately, my bathtub is not deep enough to test this property.

I am happy with the TWX977. Some minor inconveniences:
When using the DirectLink(tm) you cannot use a headset since the phone is waterproof.
When using DirectLink(tm) you cannot use it like a speakerphone.
Induction charging is safer (no exposed metal) but is slow.

I am saving up to buy a second TWX977 to help solve the problem of induction charging being slower.
