Heh. Chance not, he'll be lucky if he gets any for the next month... :P Just kidding. I actually talked to Eddy once my phone got turned back on, and thanks to the catharsis of ranting on LJ I was a little more calm. He's paying the cell phone bill and he's not going to buy any more crap for his phone, which is really all I could ask for.
I wish someone would release something like an open-source cell phone. One where the only think you can't tool around with is the "connect to network and place call" stuff. Where menus and games and sounds and everything else is open for me to dink around with.
I guess you can unlock some phones by updating the firmware with a hacked version. It doesn't seem like an easy process, though. From what I've heard, the only reason there aren't open cell phones like you're talking about is that providers are pulling the old AT&T trick of only allowing "authorized" phones on their networks, with the BS justification that "unauthorized" phones might somehow cause interference or damage the network.
