We all have our comfort foods: brownies, oatmeal cookies, bon-bons, taffy...Well, maybe not so much taffy. Unless you're a rather foppish person. Honestly, when you get right down to it, I don't even think I know anyone who likes taffy. I mean, it's weird looking, hard to chew, and tastes like tire rubber.
So forget that one. Replace it with chocolate-covered strawberries or something.
ANYWAY, (God, I can digress with the best of them) the point is that everyone has a food that they love. And no matter how many times they've eaten it, they still come back for more. Now apply that concept to books. After giving this some thought (I've obviously been under house arrest), I have come up with my literary comfort food, the book that makes me giggle like a schoolgirl whenever I pull it from the shelf.
Sherlock Holmes.
All of them. A Study in Scarlet, The Hound of the Baskervilles, the short stories. Delicious. My life has been positively joyous since I started my annual re-reading last week.
And to make matters about, oh, a bajillion times better, the gods of YouTube have seen fit to place several episodes of Grenada's Sherlock Holmes series up on the site. With the very handsome Jeremy Brett in the title role.
Hurrah!
